Are there any plans to pick up and use the existing (retail / beta) configuration when installing a new beta update?

I just installed 1714 and it appears to have reset everything to default. My custom Studio preset is gone, my panel arrangements are reset, my macros are not there (I realize they can be re-imported), my preferences are reset, my toolbar customization is gone, my tools customization is reset, etc. And that's just from a quick scan, there's probably more. It's kinda aggravating to have to spend the better part of an hour resetting everything from scratch, item by item, each time an update is applied.

Nothing I do will restore my configuration from the previous update, nor from 2.0.4 retail. I've deleted and restored (from last night's backup) both of the Beta config folders: C:\Users\<me>\.affinity\Photo\2.0 (Beta) and C:\Users\<me>\.affinity\Common\2.0 (Beta). I've even copied my 2.0.4 config folder trees, but to no avail. I've looked in the registry and there's just a generic key under LocalMachine\Software\Serif that contains nothing specific to user configuration.

This post from @Sean P:

...says "you should be able to copy your content from %userprofile%\.affinity\Common\2.0 (Beta)\user\ to %appdata%\Affinity\Common\2.0 (Beta)\user and the app should then recognise it". I copied the user folder from a backup taken well before I updated (7+ hours) but it made no difference.

Am I missing something? The previous update kept my beta settings, although I had to copy over my retail settings on the one before that. But apparently no more.

Thanks.

As the name suggests, Common has the shared configuration items, such as the user's brushes, assets, etc. that apply to all 3 applications. Settings like Studio Presets are application-specific, so you would find the ones for Publisher in Publisher\2.0 (Beta)\Workspaces and similarly for Designer and Photo.

Hello @lphilpot,

I had the same problem.

Folders such as workspaces, users, etc. can be found in the "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Romaning\Affinity" directory.

I don't know why this was changed again.

Cheers.

Well, at this point my beta config is so messed up that I need to either delete it all and reconfigure from scratch or maybe just uninstall the beta entirely and wait for the next retail release. I'll see if Serif provides any authoritative answer. If they don't plan on having subsequent betas pick up existing configs, I'll cease beta testing. It's not worth starting over every time.

Thanks.

The beta configurations are intentionally separate from the retail configurations to ensure that the betas don't contaminate/break the retail releases, and they have never (V1, or V2) picked up the equivalent retail configuration.

However, later 2.1 betas should pick up 2.1 or 2.0 beta configurations, 2.2 betas should pick up 2.1 or 2.0 beta configurations, etc. The confusion for Windows comes in from the MSIX vs EXE installers. The initial V2 EXE-based betas were storing their configuractions in the wrong location. That was fixed with the 2.1 EXE-based beta, which means it lost the 2.0 EXE-based beta configurations.
