I have noticed that sometimes when you select a brush with a tablet after having painted on the canvas that the brush selection does not properly register on the first try. In this example you can see me paint a bit while using brushes that are assigned to a specific tool, but despite showing the new brush being highlighted in the Brushes panel, the Brush Tool has not been selected as well.

It has nothing to do with the brushes having an assigned tool, but it is to help make the issue more apparent. While working for long sessions this bug can get pretty annoying since you waste clicks having to click once more to make the brush selection work.

One theory I have is that I am accidentally L click dragging briefly because of my hand moving around a bit while hovering over the brush, which makes it not register as me selecting it. I think if that's the case that a solution to this is to make L click dragging actually confirm the brush selection, since needing to be very precise with every click leads to hiccups like these.

With some further testing of my theory, I seem to have been proven correct. Even with a regular mouse I could replicate the issue by L click dragging another brush. It always highlights it, but the selection aspect is broken.

After some additional thoughts I think it would be nice if there was a lock position feature for the Brushes panel to avoid these kinds of selection flicking from occurring along with fixing the selection not syncing with the highlighting.

Hi Frozen Death Knight,

You're bang on the money with your theory. It is the movement that causes this and due to the nature of tablets, this is amplified making it a lot more obvious. It is something we've had logged - I will get it bumped and pass your comments over.

Thanks for letting us know.

@Sean P

Hello,

I am using Beta 2.1.0.1732 and did more testing.

I see the problem occurring also with the mouse: if I select brushes randomly with the mouse, eventually the last brush will remain active although the new brush will be seen as Selected: The blue outline will be around the newly selected brush while the width will still pertain to the previous brush.

As this happens to me a lot, I keep a configured width delta of 1 pixel for my brushes so I can make sure the one I want is indeed selected.

Regards,

Philippe

Thanks for that - it is the same issue. Essentially what's happening is that a move is being triggered on the brush (easier to do with a tablet due to the more precise nature) and when that happens the highlight is being added, but the brush isn't being selected.

Still a bug here on .1742. Was checking forums to see if it was meant to be fixed. I notice it does happen more when I move quickly with a tablet. If it matters, I have tablet input mode set to High Precision in Preferences.
