Herb287 Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I have a Nikon D7100 Camera and shoot in RAW. Up until I changed my laptop this year 2023 all RAW files from this camera were transferred via Nikon Capture Software. I used the same software with my old Nikon D60 camera. Now my D60 Raw files open in Affinity Photo however my D7100 files refuse to open why? The only way I can get the files to open in Affinity is to copy them from the SD card onto my hard drive and then open them in Affinity Photo. Great for current files however old stored files for the last 2 1/2 years cannot be done. Any ideas of what I can do to open these old files. Martyn Quote
Hangman Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 @Herb287, welcome to the forums... Any chance you could upload one of your D7100 RAW files that refuses to open so we can try and figure out what the problem might be? Staff Pauls Posted February 24, 2023 Staff Posted February 24, 2023 shouldn't matter but is the SD card write protected at all? Quote
Herb287 Posted February 25, 2023 Author Posted February 25, 2023 Of Course I can. I have just downloaded Nikon Free Version of Studio and the the attached file opens fine. My limited knowledge of software and corrupt files appears to me not to be a problem. I will also Upload the error message. Thank you for your help DSC_7857.NEF Quote
Gnobelix Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Hello @Herb287, Photoshop latest also cannot open the uploaded file, so it can't be n Affinity Photo. Hangman Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 @Herb287, okay, I've repaired the corrupt RAW file for you so you should now be able to open it in Photo... Basically, "downloading NEF images from 'newer' Nikon cameras with Nikon Transfer 1 or older versions of ViewNX 2 (and probably Capture NX 2) can result in corrupted NEF images that can no longer be opened" and I suspect this is what has happened here as you mentioned that all RAW files from your D7100 camera were transferred via Nikon Capture Software...
