stutes Posted January 29, 2023 Share Posted January 29, 2023 Publisher 2.0.4 macOS Ventura 13.1 (22C65) I'm working on a Publisher file of a newsletter I laid out. This was working fine on Friday, when I printed a proof for staff to review. Two days later (Sunday), now that I have mark up from the proof and want to make changes, the file does the following: Make a few edits Go to save, app crashes (disappears), displays window with error messages Relaunch app Attempt to re-open original file Get this error message: "Failed to open document… FLC Newsletter 2023.02 February Full.afpub The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." Needless to say, I find this last error message to be very odd. 1) A new version of Publisher can't deal with an old version? Usually it is the other way around. And 2) if it truly is an old version, isn't it suppose to update it? (that's the message alert I get when opening old files) and 3) this wasn't a file from an old version (the file is a child of a template; granted the template WAS originally built in v1, but was updated to v2 before it was used to create this newsletter). I've restored this file from Time Machine about ten times now. At first I thought it was perhaps a corrupt graphic that I was adding in, but it didn't appear to always be that. Then I suspected it was having an issue with a style I fixing (the decorations on some paragraphs styles appear to have not made the jump from v1 to v2, which is frustrating). But again, it didn't appear to always be that. What I've discovered is this: I can open the file, make one edit (even a minor one, like simply adding a space to the end of a sentence), and it will save once just fine. I'll then make a second edit (again, a minor one, simply adding another space somewhere), go to save a second time, and even after these simple edits the app will crash on the second save, and then the file is no longer openable, always returning that error "The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." It doesn't matter if I go back to a version that is 15 minutes old, or if I go back to Friday when the file was fine. Publisher continues this behavior. I've also tried rebooting, and the issue persists. I've got to say, I'm starting to regret upgrading to v2. Between this issue and a previous issue with the resource manager, I'm wishing I just stuck with v1; it was stable, and really had the same feature set for my needs. I'm waisting too much time troubleshooting v2. MikeTO Posted January 29, 2023 Share Posted January 29, 2023 I can't speak to the crash issue, but a bug that showed this error message for 2.0.0 files when re-opened in 2.0.0 was fixed in 2.0.3. Perhaps this is related. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=AFB-6851 Are you able to share a document here? If not, this may need to wait for Serif to review it. In the meantime, instead of repeatedly using Time Machine I recommend making a backup copy of the file and working with that, always keeping one reliable backup on hand. BTW, you can copy the crash report file and attach it to your post rather than pasting in all the text. With Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and then enter /Users/<your Mac user name>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.
