My client sent me the attached logo and wants it presented on their website with a transparent background. I've followed some instructions I found in an Affinity forum, but although the white disappears, the background isn't transparent (see 2nd image).

Advice?

There are multiple issues with the file, and you need to decide or ask the client:

  • the text has some orange / blue shadow or color fringing.
    preserve or remove?
  • Do you prefer a hard edged but somehow blocky look, or smooth edges?

depending on both questions, the best method cam be chosen.

My next question is how to change the font color from black to white?

How do I fix those issues?

First decide if you want to fix the colors, or you think there are an intended part of the logo.

To remove, use e.g. HSL adjustment to fade to grey.

One way is to use an invert adjustment, and use pen tool to make a rough vector shape used as mask to restrict to the font.

I used a different more complex approach, using the fringing colors and moppend them into alpha channel to get a smoother edge for the text.

First, I copied the image and masked tree and text with vector shapes.

Then,

  • inverted the colors of text,
  • used hsl to de-saturate
  • rasterized,
  • rasterized to mask
  • used mask on a white rectangle to get white text with smooth anti-aliased edge

Text looks great now (added black backfill, can be deactivated)

the tree needs another step go make the white edge transparent. Update will follow soon.
