bici Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Perhaps this is not the right area to ask, if so apologies; But i am looking for some examples of when a magazine has been redesigned There is a n explanation/write up. Like an Editors Notes except it is a Designer's Notes. Anyone know of any examples Quote iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020/ Sonoma OS 14.7/ Affinity newbie /
GarryP Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Doing a quick internet search for magazine redesign got me to a lot of articles about redesigning magazines, including various examples. The possibilities are practically unlimited and the motives for changing each will vary for each publication on a case-by-case basis so it’s difficult to give any specific advice. Is there a particular thing you are looking for? Is there a particular reason why you are asking? Quote
bici Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 yes i can find what you are referring to. I was hoping to find something llike a Colophon or Editor Notes that explanins to Reader how the magzaie has been redesigned due to chnage of layout software. And Wgat was changed. Etc. I thought it would be something that would be readily available but apparently not. i spent a couple of days searching without any hits. I am including a redesign statement in our newly redesigned Pub andexplaing the migraton from Adobe to Affinity. As an instructive little note. And Wgat was changed. Etc. As a Reader, I don't care what method was used to produce the magazine. I may be interested as to why there is a change of fonts or choice of paper or how the physical binding has changed to perfect instead of staples. Are any of the readers going to care that you are now using only TIFF files for illustrations instead of a mixture of PNGs JPEGs and TIFFs? I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

But i think many would be interetd in the new production tools and why the "look" of the magazine has changed. I recall reading something like this years ago. But of course cannot find it today. perhaps it was in print only. Anyways i am halfway done in describing the path from Letraset to Aldus, to Affinity Quote iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020/ Sonoma OS 14.7/ Affinity newbie /
firstdefence Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 By reader do you mean another person collaborating on the magazines design, not the end user (the person who buys the magazine or reads it for entertainment)? So a bit like word has with the review tab and comments? bici Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 It would be for the those who have been regular readers of the publication. When they receive the next issue it will be quite different from previous issues. I thought it would be good to include a COLOPHON explaining the reasons for the new layout. Years ago i recall seein ga couple of such examples of Editor's Notes. or a designer's Colophon. firstdefence 1 Quote iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020/ Sonoma OS 14.7/ Affinity newbie /
