  2. I am really really happy to be using V2.
  3. same here. Thanks Affinity. Still waters run deep.
  4. Canva has a choice to make: do they preserve what makes Affinity unique, or do they absorb it into their subscription-based ecosystem? Are we losing Affinity So that is it for me for today. I have some projects to get done using affinity v2 products. All the best... toodeloo
  5. so even the great Daring Fireball's Gruber has chimed in: https://daringfireball.net/linked/2024/03/26/canva-acquires-affinity
  6. oh I don't doubt it, but I had never come across that before. All good.
  7. if I cannot like or agree with any posts or replies to my posts.... it's because I am not allowed to post anymore reactions today.
  8. You mean V2 won't run without being connected to the internet?
  9. 10. I'll try and stay positive and hope that the Affinity suite will remain as is in terms of licensing and software purchases. As for Canva, which I know little of, let me say that I refuse any cloud solution! It is either on my desktop and offline or forget it. Best wishes to the Affinity team.
  11. Thank-you! Thank-you to all for your response and yr guidance and suggestions. I am going to apply all that I have learned to the PDF and get a grip on the issues! very grateful to all~!
  12. So. I decided to open the troublesome pdf in APub. When I did this it complained about some missing fonts and replaced them with other suggested fonts. Then I had to slightly edit the file due to spacing issues (some words had no space between them). Then I exported the file in PDF format, and placed it into my afpub file and was able then to export for printing without any issues. Of course the mystery is why the other file that the designer send me had no problems even though APub wanted to "fix" it, and that I ignored. Anyways all good now that I know the work around. PS have I "discovered" a way to edit pdf documents? I used to have to use the expensive Adobe Acrobat Pro.app in the past which I lost the use of when I upgraded my system.
  13. I have no idea what pdf export options to choose. I tried three random choices and all failed to export the document with the PDF in it. How do I determine the options to use! Also I note that this person has always sent me their PDF files without an issue until now. ps the problem file says it was produced by: Adobe InDesign 19.0 (Macintosh) using Adobe PDF Library 17.0..... Which Is the case for the second PDF that had NO ERRORS on export! Go figure! So why errors on one PDF but not the second!
  14. For the first time I ran across an issue with my Publisher 2.3.1 Document that I don't think existed in previous versions. I have placed a PDF advert document in one of my publications. It has a number of url/mailto links in it. All looks good. But when I export the Publisher .afpub document as PDF the advert fails to be included. A blank column is what shows in the exported file. What? Why? I did a preflight check on a test version and it wanted me to Fix the PDF: Placed PDF Version (PDF - 1.4) is not compatible with the export version. Use "Fix" to switch to the interpreted representation. But what does this mean? The person that sent me the PDF has always sent it as an export from InDesign to PDF. Do they need to export it in another version? PS when I apply FIX to the placed pdf document I loose the fonts and formating and the text looses spacing between words. How can this issue be avoided?
  15. Yes you are right. I had a working document in pages and went back to that to produce what we need,. The Affinity Publisher file was more elegant... In any event, I have now produced an almost perfect ePub from Pages. Rather than use reflowable output I used fixed layout and we are satisfied with the output. Thank-you for yr help
  16. Thank-you for your detailed instructions. I succesully managed to get calibre to covert from PDF to ePub. But oh dear what a mess the ePub file turned out to be! The output from Apple Books was better although it too muck-up some of the image placings etc. Seems like there is not an easy solution. I am thinking that if one leaves out images it might work out better.
  17. Note, too, that there's an application Preference, under Tools, called Move Tool Aspect Constrain, that can affect whether you need to hold Shift or not. When set to the default, for images, you do not need to hold Shift if you want it to respect the aspect ratio when enlarging I reset the preferences and I cannot do anything but scale respecting ratio from the centre. In your example how would one scale the image until it fit in to the right hand guide respecting the ratio and NOT scaling from the centre but expand to fit WITHOUT messing wih ratio. in orders words leave the top and left static where it is and then expand to the right and down and RETAIN RATIO? I have tried everything and nothing works. I lose the ratio as the image gets taller or fatter.. Perhaps I am dense.
  18. I hope I am in the right thread for my question. Hope this makes sense: After 3 publications I am still not able to find a way of scaling an image in such a way that it scales from one edge only. At the moment after placing an image in Publisher and selecting the image and then dragging by the bottom anchor using cmd key the image is enlarged from the centre. . But I want to enlarge the image so that the scaling is from one side or the other and NOT all four sides at once which makes it very difficult to place in a grid. I know I used to accomplish this in InD. Note I do mean scale and not random enlarge from one side or another. ( Publisher V1.10.6 for now)
