Hi ...

I am having great difficulties today saving my work in Affinity Designer on the iPad version 2.

Often, after making changes to my document, it does not automatically save like it usually did. Also, when I go out of the document to the home screen where all my projects are, it doesn't save and sometimes it gets me out of Affinity Designer altogether. I have made countless changes to my document, and more often than not I wind up losing them all. Why is there no Save or Save As in the document anymore? Is there a new way to save inside the document, or do you have to exit the document to save it?

Thanks.

Because the Save from within the document was causing confusion about what it actually did and potentially data loss.

So, at least for now, if you want to save the document outside the sandbox (into the standard find system) you should return to the Live Docs view and Save from there. (Note: there are reports that Cmd+S will work from within the document, but I wouldn't trust that approach.)

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Thanks for your response.

I meant the auto save feature wasn't working at all for that document, meaning that when I would exit the document on my iPad, it wouldn't keep the changes that I had made prior to exiting.

The weird part is that, usually when I work on a document on my iPad Pro and I exit to go on the home screen, I am able to access the Save As button, however for this particular document, exiting out of the document itself got me completely out of Affinity Designer, so I wasn't able to save from there.

I found out shortly afterwards that this was occurring with this particular document, and not the others that I have. So the document itself was corrupt or something. I was able to create a new document, copy and paste from the one in question, and then make my changes there. I was able to do what I wanted with the new document, have it auto save and even save a copy of it to Dropbox via Save As.

I hope that no more of my files get "corrupted" (for lack of a better term) ... I sure would love to have the Save As feature within the document itself to avoid having to exit the document to do so. Perhaps it was a bug of some sort.

So nothing further can be done about this. I'm just happy that I was able to continue with my document by creating a new one.

Have a great day, and thanks again for your response :)

Sounds like you experienced a crash (application failure).

You're welcome. Glad your new document is working better :)

I feel your frustration. I also cannot save when using Save As in Affinity Photo 2 desktop and have now lost my work several times. The application does this every time I open an images file, make some edits and choose Save As. It's been nearly two weeks with no sign of any response from Affinity. I am really disappointed.

Your link refers to the desktop app. Are you having the same issue with an iPad? If so can you share an afphoto file that has this issue. You can attach file to post if you are willing to share.🙂

I would like to see the Save and Save As both returned to Document menu. Save As creates a new document each time. Save updates the current document. I prefer to do the saves at regular interval with the file open, rather than rely on autosave to update the sandbox and then save externally after returning to Home Screen.

Returning to Home Screen I think it’s important to wait for sandbox update to finish before selecting another document or closing the app. I suspect not waiting for it to finish saving can in certain instances lead to corrupted sandbox file. But that’s just my view.🙂

I'm gathering one cannot manually save now?  Is that the plan, I'm very confused.  Because I don't see the "save" command available in the menu anymore on Designer2 for the iPad....Am I missing something?

Designer2 crashes a whole lot for me, it's less stable than Designer is, so manually saving is a nice option (as well as auto).

You Save from the Live Docs view now. You can do it by tapping a document's 3-bar menu or swiping left on the document's thumbnail.

This may change in the future, but the change was made to avoid some other data corruption and loss problems. (Note: Cmd+S may also save for you from the document itself, but I think that may be removed at some time, too. And I'm not sure I would trust it.)

Ok thanks for the help!  I'll try with cmd+S, hope that works.

When I exit the document I'm currently workin go to go into the document view with thumbnails, I can save there BUT then when I return back to the document, it resets my selected brush (plus line thickness and stabilize settings).  So that's why saving in document is very useful... unless there's a way to retain your brush selection, etc upon returning to the document you've been working on?
