SP40 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Hi, Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1 Aff Photo V2 & 2.0.3 I have a 1200dpi 16 bit scan (approx 8000 x 8000px)of a drawing which has been adjusted in Affinity Photo V2. It has an additional pixel layer that has some minimal cloning on it and 4 adjustment layers 2 of which have masks. The size on disk is 573Mb If I change the bit depth to 8 bit and save to disk the file size increases to 725Mb. If I subsequently change the dpi to 300 with resample selected, (approx 2000 x 2000px), the saved the file only decreases to 544Mb. If I then change the image size to 500px x 500px and save to disk the file size is 531Mb. by now the image is visibly very pixelated. Is there any way to stop this or is it a bug? This revealed itself when Aff Publisher 2.0.3 was installed and the document with the original 1200dpi file was embedded in it would crash the programme on opening and I tried to reduce the image size of the linked image. walt.farrell Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Try doing a Save As and giving it a new name. Space is not reduced automatically on a normal Save until something like 25% will be recovered. SP40 Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Hi Walt, Sorry, I omitted to say that each iteration was a "save as" so new data was written disk each time. Even so the reduction in image size from 8000 x 8000px to 500 x 500px only reduced the file size from 573Mb to 531Mb. thanks Quote
carl123 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Does the snapshot panel show you have a snapshot? SP40 Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Hi Carl. "there's the problem" There was a snapshot marked background. Once deleted, a "save" did not change the file size, but a "save as" did. Also a "save as" with some layers turned off did. The file size is now 1.2Mb as i would have expected. Is a Snapshot created by default? thanks for the solution. Quote

PugMug Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I'm guessing there's no option to have it not generate this snapshot? It's not very optimal having to do a "save as" and give my files a new name after I crop (and rasterize & trim) each image in order to have the proper reduced file size... Quote
