  1. Hi Carl. "there's the problem" There was a snapshot marked background. Once deleted, a "save" did not change the file size, but a "save as" did. Also a "save as" with some layers turned off did. The file size is now 1.2Mb as i would have expected. Is a Snapshot created by default? thanks for the solution.
  2. Hi Walt, Sorry, I omitted to say that each iteration was a "save as" so new data was written disk each time. Even so the reduction in image size from 8000 x 8000px to 500 x 500px only reduced the file size from 573Mb to 531Mb. thanks
  3. Hi, Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1 Aff Photo V2 & 2.0.3 I have a 1200dpi 16 bit scan (approx 8000 x 8000px)of a drawing which has been adjusted in Affinity Photo V2. It has an additional pixel layer that has some minimal cloning on it and 4 adjustment layers 2 of which have masks. The size on disk is 573Mb If I change the bit depth to 8 bit and save to disk the file size increases to 725Mb. If I subsequently change the dpi to 300 with resample selected, (approx 2000 x 2000px), the saved the file only decreases to 544Mb. If I then change the image size to 500px x 500px and save to disk the file size is 531Mb. by now the image is visibly very pixelated. Is there any way to stop this or is it a bug? This revealed itself when Aff Publisher 2.0.3 was installed and the document with the original 1200dpi file was embedded in it would crash the programme on opening and I tried to reduce the image size of the linked image.
  4. HI Walt & Old Bruce, thanks for replying. Yes I get the the idea of using pixel dimensions. However I work with multiple copies of files for different outputs, It is much easier to check this using dimensions & resolution rather than pixels. It seems the answer to my question "How do I see the document size (in either cm or inches), resolution and bit depth displayed without opening the resize document menu option?" Is, you can't do it. OK I'll adapt my workflow. best
  5. Hi Carl & H Thanks. that explains how the panel works. But... Why? How is that information useful. The Transform panel is only active with a selection active and only gives dimensions. How do I see the document size (in either cm or inches), resolution and bit depth displayed without opening the resize document menu option? thanks
  6. Hi Walt, Yes. I need to see the H & W fields. Maybe the D & A fields are for the colour picker function in the panel.
  7. Hi, OSX 10.14.6 AfPh 1.7.3 Currently the info panel doesn't display any dimension information. Image size is displayed in the status bar with the Pan tool selected. Any suggestions? thanks Additional: On computer restart AfPh displays size info for 1 file only. If a second file is opened it shows the same dimensions as the first file. The status bar shows the correct size for both files.
  8. HI, AFPhoto 1.7.1 macOS 10.14.5 When opening a new folder in the finder the thumbnails initially display as the AFP logo and appear (slowly) as an image preview. Some PSD & Tiff files stay as logo thumbnails. I have tried opening in AFP and re-saving. No change. "Save with thumbnail" is turned on in AFP Preferences. Finder "Show Icon Previews" is enabled. Is this a AFP behaviour? Could this be a Cache Issue? Also is there an image browser, like Bridge, to use with Affinity files? thanks ross
  9. Hi Paul, thanks. It's something I used to do in Photoshop and found very useful. shame it's not possible. Also in PS holding down the shift whilst dragging copied in register. r
  10. Hi, I have two pictures open in AF Photo and wish to drag layers from one to another. Is this possible? How? thanks r
  11. HI, affinity Photo 1.6.7 OSX 10.13.6 I have opened a page of a PDF file and saved as a .afphoto file it only has one image layer. If I use the Marquee toll to select a portion of the file and then copy and paste this to create a new layer with just the selection, AFP creates a new layer containing the whole image. If I export the image as a tiff and reopen it I am able to copy and paste the selection. I have tried opening a different tiff and saving this as a .afphoto and the behaviour is correct just the selection appears on a new layer. I have tried opening another pdf file and the same behaviour. Any Suggestions thanks
