No default grid in V2.0 and V2.03

Recommended Posts

I click 'View/Show Grid', but no grid appears. In 'Grid and Snapping Axis' the mode is 'Automatic', but there is no grid until a 'Basic' grid is selected manually. The mode reverts to 'Automatic' (no grid) when the app is restarted. This is true for all 3 V2 apps. It was not true in V1 apps.

It should be true for Photo 2, but not Designer 2 and Publisher 2, as far as I know.

But really, there is a default grid in Photo 2 when set to Automatic, but it's a Pixel grid. So unless you're zoomed-in enough that a 1px x 1px grid is visible, you won't see it. You can switch from Automatic to Basic in View > Grid and Axis... to get a visible grid.

For me, the default grid in AD 2 is the same Automatic 1x1 px one as in AP 2.

Thanks. I thought the problem was only with Photo.

Thanks, but a pixel grid spacing is not useful. I want a visible default grid and have that grid show when I click 'Show Grid'. I don't want to go through a multi-step process every time I restart the program. It makes no sense to have the grid 'on' setting survive a restart while the grid spacing does not.

This isn't the first complaint about this but Serif seem to have dug in. Can't set up a macro to fix it either.

I think the problem is the automatic grid in V2 isn't really automatic -- unlike in V1 it's always 'stuck' at a 1x1 px grid so it is just about impossible to see unless your document is very small or you zoom way in to see it.

I only get the pixel grid in AP 2 not AD 2 or APUB 2 (Windows 11)

Maybe, it's different on Macs?

I'm not sure what you mean by pixel grid -- I am talking about the View menu item Show Grid that the Grid & Axis Manager controls -- but for me, the default grid in all of them is "Automatic."

As far as I am aware that's a special 1x1px grid that is the default, automatic grid in AP2 (only) and will only show up when zoomed in to a certain high value

The help file for AP2 (search, pixel grid) may explain it better

Well, as I said, I get that grid as the default for all 3 Affinity 2 apps, not just in AP 2.
