joe_l Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 When an .afphoto is placed and some layers are hidden and you change the .afphoto, APu shows that files were changed (automatic update from preferences). In fact, in Resource Manager the "old" version will be shown. Quote ---------- Windows 10 / 11, Complete Suite Retail and Beta

Maybe the devs evaluate other cases too. I can definitely say, that I added a layer to the image, it was updated in APu and the new layer did not appear in the layer list, so I had to replace the image. walt.farrell 1 Quote ---------- Windows 10 / 11, Complete Suite Retail and Beta
walt.farrell Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 So both the Resource Manager and the Layer list in the Context Toolbar failed to update? Staff NathanC Posted December 8, 2022 Staff Posted December 8, 2022 Hi @joe_l, I'm struggling to re-create this on Windows 10, I created a new blank publisher document (auto update enabled) and separately created an .afphoto document with 3 coloured rectangles with the top two hidden, when I placed the file (as linked) and then toggled the visibility of the layers and then saved the .afphoto file in Photo 2, it auto updated in my publisher document and the resource manager thumbnail correctly reflected the current document's state and did not show the 'old' version. Am I missing something key? Could you possibly provide me with a screen recording/sample file(s) used? Many thanks! Quote

I am talking about toggling the visibility of the layers in APu! I've been toggling visibility of the layers within the .afphoto file in the Photo 2 and then saving and checking the resource manager in APub. I've also just tried this by opening the linked .afphoto file in Publisher and then toggling layer visibility in the file and saving, but this is still updating as expected in resource manager back in my publisher doc. So I try again to explain my workflow. 0. Am I correct, that there is no way yet to hide or show layers of a linked .afphoto document as I can do it with .afdesign documents (see screenshot)? 1. Since toggling layers does not work (for me) with .afphoto, I edited the .afphoto file in AD, added there REAL layers and moved the elements into those layers. Then switched back to AP to do further editing and saving. 2. Placing this file allowed me to toggle the layer visibility (like in the screenshot). 3. I edited the same .afphoto as explained in 1., added a layer, the file was automatically updated in APu, but the new layer did not appear in the layer dropdown. If my workflow is all wrong I learned, that I simply have to replace the .afphoto to make the additional layer appear. So all is good on my side. This was just an observation. It doesn't appear to matter if the file is an .afdesign or an .afphoto to get this layer visibility menu to appear, you need to ensure that your linked file contains a Layer container which can only be created in Designer/Publisher, so in order to get new layers to appear in an .afphoto file open in Photo 2 you would need to duplicate a layer or paste one in to the file, for example. 46 minutes ago, joe_l said: 3. Following your workflow, I created an .afphoto file and then opened it in Designer and added 4 Container Layers and saved. I then placed this .afphoto file into Publisher which then gave me the 'Layers' dropdown showing my 4 layers. Back in Designer, when I added an additional container layer and saved the file. Back in Publisher, this then updated automatically and when I checked the Layer visibility toggle I now had 5 Layers to toggle between. The above was done with update external resources automatically enabled in Publisher, without this enabled I had to manually update the resource in resource manager, at which point my 5th layer appeared, as expected. I'll continue to try and replicate this on a few different devices to see if I can get this to fail to update the layer visibility. joe_l 1 Quote

Thx for your efforts, but don't waste too much time on this. The bug seems to be on my side. Quote ---------- Windows 10 / 11, Complete Suite Retail and Beta
