Inpainting Brush issues

Recommended Posts

I’ve need usin Photo v2 since launch date with no issues.  Tonight, while using the inpainting brush, every time I would touch my iPad with my Pencil, all of my prior strokes would reappear on screen.   The attached picture shows all of the strokes that appear whenever I touched with the pencil.  I closed the picture to the Home Screen, closed the app, reopened the app and opened my image, and everything that I had previously removed showed back up in my image.  Then, when I started using my pencil, the inpainting brush initially worked as it should, and then started doing the same thing again.

Hi,

This issue could have several possible causes.

Please try restarting the iPad once.

Then, only for test purposes, remove any protective covers, and place the iPad on a clean and even surface, on a soft cloth. It could be a mechanical issue by some covers applying pressure to the display, while holding in one hand.

Then, please check that the background  is of type „Pixel Layer“. The best method is to rasterize the layer after opening.

Then, check that the pixel layer is selected in the layer stack.

I would recommend to try the non-destructive variant:

  1. add a pixel layer (empty)
  2. choose the „current layer and below“ option
  3. now all Inpainting is done on the separate layer. This allows to inspect and erase or redo the inpaints any time later

I  reported this happening several weeks ago as well, a power cycle did not fix it but doing a Forced Restart which re-initialises more of the hardware of the iPad fixed it and it has not returned.

I've been at this for 20+ mins and cannot reproduce. Do you find it depends on the document type?

Hi Chris!  I only work on my -hoots…taking them from Raw all the way through to final image.  I haven’t changed anything that I’ve done.  I just thought perhaps it is some new bug I’ve come across.  I will do a forced restart of my iPad and see if that fixes it.  Thank you so much for the prompt reply.
it’s weird because it hadn’t been doing this….I’ve already edited several photos in V2…which I love by the way…thank you Serif Labs!!
I’ll do the forced restart, and will report back here if it starts again, or if I go several days without it happening!

Hi there!  I’m going to do a forced restart and see what happens.  I don’t have any protective films on my iPad.  I appreciate your advice on the non-destructive variant, and will give that a closer look…it’s not something I have done before, but am certainly willing to give it a go!  Thank you for taking the time to reply!

Did my suggestion of a Forced Restart fix this for you? I have just seen another report on my Facebook group with the same issue again.
