Grid not working and no direct option to rename file

Kianne

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have an urgent project that I’m working on and I have just discovered that the grid in Version 2 is not working. In an attempt to save time, I saved the file to open in version 1 however it cannot open in it. Please assist; as you can see, all the settings are okay and yes, I did click to view grid. A floating “Show guides” also seems to be stuck on the right side. Regarding renaming, I read that to rename a file in Live view, swipe left however that is option is not seen (other screenshot). I had to export and change file name for it to rename but this is not a sustainable solution.

Looking forward to a response.

I think the new way is to click the burger menu for the file in Live Docs and choose Save As. This gives you a saved native .afphoto file with the name you want, that you can continue editing if you need to.

Rename probably wasn't doing what you thought it was, as if you used it with a file you'd already saved it didn't work right.

Hello, I don’t mean renaming for saving. I mean renaming just for my personal organization within Affinity without saving the file as not all files I’m working on (progress) I want to save to device/cloud. Here is what I mean from version 1.

Thank you. Regarding the grid, is there a plan to have it function in photo how it functions in version 2 of Designer as well as version 1 of both? That is what I need for efficiency and for a lot of the large work that I do. The standard and auto way in version 2 photo do not give me the grid layout that I need. In standard, the highest spacing it goes to is 2.048 inches. I need larger spacing. In the others in Auto function, it seems to be a spacing of 5, which I need.

The ability to rename without saving was removed.

And it's generally been unwise to just have documents in the Live Docs view (which was the home page in V1). If you have to remove the app to fix a problem, you lose all those documents that aren't saved, as they're in a sandbox that is deleted with the application. So perhaps they've removed it to avoid the problems with users unexpectedly losing their work.

For me, both V1 and V2 Designer allow a maximum grid spacing of .853 inches. Photo is the same.

I have no idea how you got 2.048, and I have no ideas how you could get it bigger. But it works the same in V1 and V2 for me, so I'm not sure there's a bug here.

@DM1: Your input box shows 3.6 in, but does it actually get set when you press OK?

After setting it reverts to px. I simply changed back to show same setting in inches again. 72dpi at 256px is about right for 3.6”. Haven’t measured it to check though.🙂

Thinking about it I wonder if dpi changes limits?

Edit. Appears it does. Max spacing is limited to 256 px so higher dpi (600dpi) shows smaller spacing of 0.4” (256/600).

Since this is grid-related — the pixel brush tool doesn’t align with the 1bit grid.

Could you post a screenshot. I set grid to 1 px and paint with pixel brush and fill each px share?

Hi @DM1

The floating grid is nothing new, and probably the devs are aware that pixel brush tool doesn’t work over it either.

Yes, definitely buggy on your model. Could another setting be involved? Mine seem to stay aligned.
