File management v2

Bmin

Recommended Posts

Is there no way to rename files on the live docs screen? V1 had a menu button on each file that allowed you to rename, close, or save and I’m not seeing a way to do anything other than close files.

in that same vein, my biggest ask for v2 was a way to either batch close, or batch save files from the screen. It’s so time consuming individually saving files and this would be very welcome. I noticed that you can now batch import photos and place them in documents which is HUGE so thanks for that. But file management needs some of that same attention to detail.

thanks!

close files in batch! That part still stands.

You can close all files in one go (but not save them). On Home Screen (Live Docs view), tap the app icon in top left corner and choose Close All Documents. Any that are not Saved will be gone.

You have to swipe left on the thumbnail in the live docs screen, and this ‘reveals’ three buttons: rename, duplicate and save.

While perhaps not technically a bug, it’s not intuitive at all. :)

I can’t agree more. I even check on the help menu but could not find anything except renaming them inside the export pesona. Thank you for the anwers.

Be aware that renaming DOES NOT WORK if you have previously saved a file. And WORSE, it pretends to work. Rename should be deleted from here as the only place you can rename a file within the app is when you first time save it, just like any desktop application.

RENAME option here is the no.1 reason people lose track of their work.

To make it more confusing, Renaming a Saved file changes the name of the Sandboxed version (Live Doc icon), just not the external file. You end up with two different names for the file, depending whether you look in the folder or in Live Doc screen🤪

This seems to be the same/similar functionality as the 1.x version. I had hoped that this version might make it better, but I suspect the developers are trying to work around Apple's restrictive 'walled garden' file system. For example, I now have two affinity designer folders on my iPad, a new one 'spawned' for the new app, whereas all my previous files are in the previous folder that was associated with V1.

Looks like we will have to keep manually moving and renaming files outside the app. The new 'M' indicator should be helpful, though- it shows when a file in the live docs has been modified but not saved.

Unfortunately it reverts to M when returning to Live Doc view. Even if you have Saved via Workscreen Doc menu and made no further edits🙁 better than nothing as you can still swipe and save.

When I swipe left I get only 2 icons. Duplicate and Save. No Rename. I’d really like to rename. Any thoughts on how to get this to happen?

Use hamburger menu Save a copy. Rename.
