PDFs and font import

Recommended Posts

I've been using Affinity Photo for a few years and a major problem is its inability to convert fonts embedded in PDFs when rasterizing. I work for Japanese publications and I have to use alternative software to convert PDF images to JPG, because Affinity turns the Japanese into abstract symbols.

Has this been corrected in version 2?

Thank you.

Why not try the trial version? Only then will you be sure that version 2 does/does not do exactly what you expect.

The sample PDF is attached to my inquiry. As to why I have not downloaded and installed a trial version to get my question answered, if I must, I can go through that effort. But it is certainly easier to simply ask someone who is using the application, if possible.

Thank you for your replies.

The answer is no, nothing has changed in this regard.

There is no PDF attached that I can see.

No, sorry, I didn't post the PDF. I misspoke. What's in my inquiry is the result of exporting a PDF that is in Japanese as a JPEG. I haven't tried it with other languages, but this happens consistently. The result is whimsical, but useless. Thanks.

@mulciber

What application created the PDF?

I assume you imported the PDF so it could be edited (not pass-through).

Your PDF may be like the one @ashfposted in another thread where the Japanese font is embedded as a CID Character Collection (not Unicode).

I would like to see the PDF to confirm this.

That would require I post something proprietary (as was the other thing, but in the form I posted it, it was obviously unintelligible). I can tell you that the font is indeed embedded in the PDFs I work with. That is the standard for our publications. (Very likely the PDFs I work with most are created in the Japanese version of Adobe Publisher.) I need no further information to determine that I will not be upgrading. Thanks for your interest.
