Publisher: Can't add page numbers to master or pages using master...

Recommended Posts

I'm new to Affinity Publisher and am trying out the trial version to see if it will work for my application. I want to add page numbers to a work book I'm designing. Here are the steps I've take so far:

1. Created a Master and applied to all pages in the document.

2. Added a text box to the master and double checked to make sure the cursor was inside the box and blinking.

3. Added the leading text "Page Number" and a space after the leading text.

4. Using the Text menu, went down to Insert and then Field.

5. The Page Number option is there, but grayed out. I double checked and the cursor is still inside the box.

Is this a limitation with the trial version, or am I doing something wrong and perhaps missed a step?

Screen Shot attached...

Thanks Much... In Advance...

Mike

Welcome to the forums @MikeCorvid

The trial software is time-limited but fully functional apart from that.

If you can enter text then the Text Fields should be usable.

If we could see your full screen then that might give us more clues. (The more we can see the better.)

If we can open the document for ourselves - you can attach it if you don't mind it being in public - then we can see if we get the same problem as you.

Hi @MikeCorvid welcome to the forums,

That's quite unusual for the option to be greyed out if you have the text caret flashing within the frame.

Could you try to add it via the fields panel by following the below:

  1. Open the 'Fields' Panel (View > Studio > Fields)
  2. Open up the 'Document Sections' Dropdown
  3. Click into your text frame with the caret flashing
  4. Double Click 'Page Number' and this should insert a Number Sign.

If it's still not inserting could you upload a copy of your file as Garry mentioned, I can provide a private dropbox link if required.

The mystery continues...

I tried method two as outlined by NathanC, and still no field was inserted. See Screen Shot. I did confirm there was a cursor blinking inside the box.

I have also attached a full screen shot, per Gary's note, of the first method, which I tried again with the same result.

Working on the dropbox link... Thanks Guys...

Here is the file with the page number. When is the last time you shut down the computer? When is the last time you quit Publisher? Sometimes some cruft builds up.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I just started using it last night. Downloaded it and completed the install yesterday. This was my first trial project / use of the software. I did not reboot after the installation. I'll try that now before using the corrected file.

Thanks Bruce...

Thanks for letting us know that you solved the issue and how you solved it. A lot of people don't do that.
