Large files, Open CL and crashes

Recommended Posts

SInce a moderator pointed out to start a new topic if these problems occur I'm happy to add my share to the bug list ;-)

Working with large files (clipping, copying clipped parts) and Open CL active, constantly leads to AP beeing lost in "hard brainwork" without seriously returning to real life ... (at least for the first 20 Minutes .... and if you don't touch it). My CPU is working hard - my GPU is working even harder (looks like I'm rendering a film with blender). So it seems AP is kind of "alive" but unable to properly respond to any new commands and input. Reminds me of my neighbour when he's on drugs. If you start pushing it, it will eventully crash (not respond any more) - can happen to my neighbour as well. Turning of Open CL solves this issue. (Haven't yet found that checkbox on my neighbour though)

Using a I7-12700 K processor and an Nvidia RTX 3070 with the latest drivers is not retro hardware - so one would expect to get some kind of performance boost out of GPU support instead of a software doing selfish workout in hardware heaven.

No crash report generated - just gone with the wind.

Cheers, Timo

Hi @DarkClown

Whilst the app is not responding could you try a get a dump file for the app from Task Manager and send it over please.

You mean while it is busy with itself - or after it is not any more responding?

During the above step. At this point could you try and get a dump file.

Does it only crash at this point if you try to perform other functions? If you leave the app alone does it then come back?

Is there a specific function or file that causes this?

Can you please provide a Dopbox link for the file(18GB)?

The dump file was generated while the Application was still working. 3-6% processor and 16-20% GPU ressources with constantly changing values.

No busy cursor (just arrow). Application hasn't returned from outer space after 5 Minutes. How long does one have to wait for an application to return to life?
Cheers, Timo

After 10 Minutes it returned to my world 🙂- When I tried to close the application it left for nirvana again so I had to close it through the task manager.
