Creating a transparent logo

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forums @Roo2

Without being able to see what you have we can only guess as to what you can do with it.
If you can show us your logo and tell us how your created it, or attach the original document (if possible), we can give you various methods.

Thanks for the extra information and the document.
It looks to me as if you have a transparent background already – the grey chequerboard.
All you need to do is export it as a PNG (which contains transparency) and you should be able to use it.

You might want to use the Export Persona to only export part of the canvas – a Slice – so the logo isn’t too large.

Hi @Roo2,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

I'd recommend the following:

  • Using the Move Tool, click and drag a selection around the logo, so all visible layers are selected
  • With this selection active, navigate to File > Export
  • In the dialog that opens, select either SVG (if you want a vector version of the logo, which can be scaled with no quality loss) or PNG (if you want a raster (image) version of the copyright logo)
  • If SVG, set the preset to SVG (for export) - if PNG then set the preset to PNG (these are both the default presets for these formats)
  • Set Area to Selection Only
  • Export your design

Then, within any document you wish to add this logo to, navigate to File > Place and select the exported file - you can then use the Move Tool to transform this logo on your image before exporting for Instagram

I've attached a quick screen recording of this here -

I hope this helps!

so I can then land it onto an image?

By the way, aside SVG & PNG you also can use PDF as export format with transparent background.
Also, if the desired image gets opened in Affinity, you can copy/paste the "logo" Layer from this .afdesign file or place the file itself on an image.

A possible alternative to consider is after using the Move Tool to select all the visible layers, group them together, give the group a descriptive name, & add it to the AD Assets panel.
