Eroica
The SVG in the attachments was exported by matplotlib. How it looks in Affinity Designer (1.10.5.1342): How it looks in Google Chrome (correct): Do you see anything wrong in the SVG or could this be an issue of Affinity Designer? density_plot_63-pos.svg
Staff MEB Posted July 20, 2022 Staff Share Posted July 20, 2022 Hi @Eroica, This is an issue with Affinity Designer which is not parsing the file correctly. I believe we already have a similar case logged. I'm checking it out and adding your file to our report (or filling a new one if none exists yet). Instead of SVG try to export as PDF from matplotlib. Thanks for raising the issue. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
GarryP
As MEB said above, the Affinity applications cannot convert all SVG elements properly. I would suggest tinkering with the mathplotlib export settings to try and get the ‘simplest’ SVG which is still usable for your needs. Which settings to tinker with, however, is a different question. One suggestion would be to ‘flatten’ transforms. Another might be to remove clip-paths, if possible. I don’t know mathplotlib so I can’t say how you would do this. If you find some settings that work for you then it would be good if you could share them here so other people, with the same problem, can also use them without having to go through the process you have went through. Eroica
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks to the Affinity team for keeping an eye on this issue. I will forward your hints to our development team and check which workarounds work!
MmmMaarten
@Eroica @GarryP @MEB(Damn, tried to rewrite below post without svg tag names and made it completely harmless in every way, but still it didn't pass the security check on this forum (this forum is a little too protective), so now I just creat a screen shot of the text 😀 Hope it works now ...) [edit] yes! it worked 😅
MmmMaarten
To add to my post above; this was just a quick look and check and I could be completely wrong or missing things. It might also be multiple things together not being supported (or perhaps even tags inside the file that might not be by the specification). it could be all kinds of things causing this, but this looks like it might be the reason.
