VectorCat
Imagine making a shape, like a wooden plank. As you added shapes to make your plank, (parent layer named "Plank" - under this idea, rather than having: Plank curve curve curve you'd instead get Plank Plank-1 Plank-2 Plank-3 Useful, or faff? Filled with potential pitfalls, Arm arm 1 arm 2 -- damnit I want wrist arm 3 -- I mean hand... ------------ Overall much more useful than the current inability to have any sort of auto naming. Frozen Death Knight
3D programs solve the naming issue with having batch renaming of objects. Just search for a specific name or object type, then change the name with different settings like based on selection hierarchy, all, etc. Would be nice if Affinity adopted that feature as well. Like @Old Bruce I wouldn't be for it. Here that behaviour would cause a lot of issues and extra work to correct it, so I am not for it (at least not without being able to turn this behaviour off). This is an assumption that's definitely not working for everybody I'm afraid.
