Fix serious file management issues

Recommended Posts

This app has serious file management issues, I ‘ve raised in numerous posts. I know what its supposed to do ad nauseum.

While AP, open in gallery after trying to save local file, and the message pops up downloading! What!

Returning to Ipad file manager its hung on Affinity directory.
Closing Affinity Photo frees up the file manager.

File management is a disaster! App graphic functionality is great!

This post in reference to Ipad please move.

To create a file in AP I have used the following technique.

First off, I use an existing image jpg, png, all images are local, using shared network no longer used too problematic.

  • from Ipad file manager click on an ipad then share then choose “Copy”, then from AP import from clipboard, and the “Save as”
  • From within AP “Open from Cloud” use local image.
  • From within AP “Import from Cloud” use local image.
  • From within AP “Open from photos”
  • From Ipad file manager double click image to preview, then share using AP

Dont know if using import or open from cloud are different if using local file, maybe sandbox handles differently.

Opening from file manager is the preferred way, since I know where this file is located, once in AP to select a file I’ve lost the connection between the image and its location. Forcing the “Save As” makes a disconnect with the file just opened and am presently working on. This means after adding file to AP, and forced to Save As the file you originally opened is of what use? Any changes to be retained, must be saved to a new file. Once doing that the original file is retained in the sandbox in its original state with no changes, and is the only file seen in the AP gallery. Now to see changes must open the “Saved as” file, now have 2 files in sandbox, one the original unedited version and the other the edited version, both may look identical if not much change.

Suggestion:

After using “Save as” automatically add that file to the AP gallery with the option to close the sandbox image that was used to create it, leaving only the afphoto image with the new user changes.

Opened an imported files are handled differently (see image).

Once in Affinity, Open and Import both utilise the Files app (iOS file manager) to navigate to your file. You can navigate to all folders/sub folders on iPad or networks/clouds (using Open /import from Cloud option).

You don’t have to save edits to a new file. If you 'Open' a file fro within AP, make edits, return to Home Screen and project icon reflects changes. Tap the 3 bar Save (below icon) and you have have option to Save flattened or save new document. Save flattened updates the original image. (Can’t undo as it’s a flattened image not an afphoto file). Save new creates an afphoto file in default save location.

Correction “Save as” = “Save copy to”, hope this is correct, cant access AP right now still Loading…

Trying to open file saved on iPad, for several minutes just wheel spinning.   Loading… not a sausage!

Short of turning off, any way to terminate the app? Short answer, No!

Time to restart.

Yes!

Drag up slowly from the bottom of the screen until you get the array of open apps.

Touch the Photo app, and flick it up off the screen.
