I have Windows 10 desktop and Affinity Photo 1.10.5 (updated today)

I've been trying to find the split view button, and though I haven't needed to use it in a while, I still liked it; however it seems to have disappeared. The button is not among the toolbar customizations either. Also View mode under View is missing so I can't access it from there. It's still available in my Affinity Designer.

It wasn't in the previous update either. I'm about to update Designer I hope it's still there when it's done.

Any ideas?

Designer supports both Vector view mode and Pixel view mode, and a Split mode showing both.

Photo has only the Pixel view mode, and so it does not need and does not provide the Split view mode.

I was sure I used it but maybe it was a Photoshop thing.

Split View icons are available in the Toolbar when in the Liquify and Develop personas

Split view icons are also available in many of the Filters

Maybe you saw it in one of the above?

I know this is a long running issue but can Walt explain why it does not need a split view mode please. Otherwise I find the statement rather unhelpful. Cheers.

Welcome to the forums @Mike_P

As I understand the context from the original question, Photo only shows you the document in the equivalent of Designer’s Pixel View Mode, and Photo has no equivalent of Designer’s Vector View Mode, so there’s no need to have a split view as both sides would look the same in that regard.

If you are asking a different question then we would need more details.

Garry, thanks for your prompt reply. The split view I refer to is the one available in the develop persona which I find invaluable. Why isn't this avalable in photo persona? I fail to see what this has got to do with the existence of Designer. It's just the sort of expected facility you see in the likes of Capture One, Lightroom and others. Hope this is a bit clearer.

I don’t use the Develop Persona but, as I understand things, the Develop Persona Split View exists to show the user the differences between the undeveloped image and the developed image.

And since the Photo Persona doesn’t have developing functionalities I don’t understand why you would want a Split View there.

Can you explain what you would expect to see on each side of a Split View in the Photo Persona?

I think the thing you are asking about – the Split View – might be different to the View Modes that are available in Designer, which is what the OP was asking about (I think), so we might be ‘talking at cross-purposes’.

Taking your last point first, Designer has absolutely nothing to do with my query. Your understanding of the Develop Persona matches mine, I use it more than the others and the split view is an invaluable tool. Where we seem to differ is that I can't understand why anyone would not want a split view elsewhere. If I edit a file in, for example, Capture One (but there are others), I have access to a split view whatever I do. So I can keep a simple and constant track on the effects of my adjustments. No need to undo or deselect etc. So I sense this is possibly all about different ways of working, there's probably no right or wrong. I don't come from an Adobe background but I consider myself more of a Lightroom person than a Photoshop person. I am still rather new to AP2 so I will persevere for now. Thanks once again for your input, much appreciated.
