Slovene special characters wrong in copy and paste

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I love Affinity products, but I have run into a problem in Affinity Publisher.

If I type this slovene word, for example: Čeprav
when I copy and paste it into Word or Apple Notes, it appears as: Č eprav (note the extra space between Č and e)

I have seen other issues, but I have not been able to reproduce them consistently like this.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

This looks like Word is not able to import the text style from Publisher but it you choose the option 'Keep Text Only' the word is pasted into Word correctly, can you please provide more information on the font and text style that you are using in Publisher.

Hi, thanks so much for the replies.

I have attached a minimal APub file showing this issue. BTW, I'm on macOS, and I am seeing the extra space not just in Word but also in Notes, and I use a clipboard manager, and I see the extra space there as well. (Yes, I also tried this with the clipboard manager not running, and I still saw the issue.)

Originally I saw this problem in a large file using Minion Pro and various text styles. When I was debugging the situation, I created a minimal viable project that should it with all defaults, no styles and using either Arial and Helvetica. Both demonstrated the issue.

Thanks for any help!

Here on Mac OS 11.6.4 I get a (normal) white space between the Č and the e in TextEdit and Pages but not BBEdit. If I then copy from BBEdit and paste into TextEdit and Pages I get no space. The other way naturally copies the space from TextEdit and/or Pages into BBEdit.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.5
Affinity Designer 2.5.3 | Affinity Photo 2.5.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.3 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I copied it from Publisher Beta (1.10.5.1282) on Windows, and then looked at the clipboard using Free Clipboard Viewer.

It tells me:

  Preview: Čeprav
  Rich Text Format: Č eprav
  Unicode Text Format: 010C 0065 0070 0072 0061 0076
  Text: 43 65 70 72 61 76
  OEM Text: (same as Text)
  Serif Persona Story: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deflang1033
{\fonttbl
{\f0 ArialMT;}
{\f1 Helvetica;}}
{\colortbl;\red0\green0\blue0;\red255\green255\blue255;}

\pard\plain\sa240\f1\u268 ? eprav\f0\fs0\lang1024}

So there seems to be something wrong with the RTF format Publisher put into the clipboard, and the "Serif Persona Story" format (that seems to be based on RTF) has a glitch at the same location (which I've underlined and made red. the Unicode Text Format looks good.

Definitely a bug which appears to be related to the handling of the caron.
The caron in the Č is a combining caron that is a composite in the glyph.
I added a separate caronmod (U+02C7) - like this "Č eprav Cˇeprav" and it also had a "?" on it on a couple of the clipboard formats including Text and Serif Persona Story.
So something is going on with the way this is getting put on the clipboard.
