JAYKAY144 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Hi Team Serif: I suddenly lost the ability to save my image processing this afternoon. Here are screenshots to show you the Serif error message in Affinity Photo. I tried to re-load the latest version of AffPhoto ... did not help. What to do??? Cheers, JimK ps: the robot recapture bit is rather disappointing for such an excellent creative app development company Quote
ashf Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Can you save it to other location such as /Users/Your name/Documents? Quote
JAYKAY144 Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 Yes! I am on a Macbook Pro Catalina iOS ... it saved as an .afphoto to my Document folder. See attached. Does this mean my external hard drive is suddenly having a bad day? Zero issues previously ... Seagate 5TB. Quote
ashf Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 No I don't think it's physical problem of the HDD. Could be permission problem or irregular folder name. Try to create a new folder in HDD and save it to there. Quote
NotMyFault Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 There is a „&“ character in the filename. This could lead to issues on Windows file systems (fat fat32 exfat ntfs). ( although not explicitly listet in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filename#Reserved_characters_and_words) Can you check the filesystem type of the ext. Disk? can you try to save a file with / without this special character? What happens if you run Disk Utility's First Aid on the HDD? If that shows no problems or fixes any it finds, maybe try saving the file to some folder near the top level of that drive, perhaps a newly created one with a very short name. JAYKAY144 Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 Thanks ashf OK it works in the end ... see attached test save. HOWEVER First all new folder creation attempts failed on the HDD. Second I had to use Force Eject on both 5TB HDDs. Third I installed the 1st HDD (the one we are talking about) into another port. Created a new TEST FOLDER successfully in the original folder (2015 RBG Sydney). Saved the overvivid colour test image properly (attached). THOUGHTS I get a bit concerned when this stuff happens ... nothing to do with Serif. I usually conclude an 'agency' (take your pick) team was trying to copy the HDD contents ... hence force eject status. I believe this resolves the issue. Let me process a few more normally ... if all processes normally, I will finalize the Forum Chat as CLOSED. Thanks ashf Cheers ... Be Happy, Be Healthy Quote
JAYKAY144 Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 Thanks responders 2 & 3 ... not sure a Macbook Pro has those typical Windows tools. Cheers Quote
JAYKAY144 Posted January 12, 2022 Author Posted January 12, 2022 R-C-R Just found the MAC link for Disk Utility, thank you. Will look into using it today. Cheers Quote

One tool all Macs have is Disk Utility, which you can use with its First Aid feature to diagnose & sometimes repair drive problems, depending on how severe they are. If you could not (& still cannot) create new folders on your external HDD, it would be a really good idea to do this. JAYKAY144 Posted January 13, 2022 Author Posted January 13, 2022 CLOSED Issue I have been able to return to normal Affinity Photo processing and file saving. We enjoy uploading to our flickr photostream: JAYKAY144 Thank you ashF and R-C-R for responding. You helped me to solve the issue ... it had nothing to do with Serif. Cheers Dan C and ashf 2 Quote
