Hi Guys !

I wanted to know how can one increase the Length of a Photo in Affinity Photo. I have worked on an image where in I have isolated the background but the image when exported looks too small. How can I increase the dimensions, the Length of the Photo for viewing better without losing any quality or making it look Blur or losing the Sharpness ?

If while exporting I just choose the desired size that kind of makes the Image lose it sharpness and starts looking a little blurred !

Any suggestions ?

Both the Images are attached. The First one is the Original Photo and the second one after working on it.

Not sure if you mean just the image width here then for the second shown image?  - In case of the second shown image that should be easily done, by creating a new right sized document with that light brownish background color and then placing (copy/paste) and positioning your extracted person layer onto that.

Or change the document size for the second shown image accrodingly and then select the extracted person layer and reposition the extracted person on the background the way you want it.

Do you mean first create a Document Size ? And how do you Put the Image I have worked on in to the new Document ?

Basically, if understand correctly, you want to increase your image dimensions. You could try to resize it by using the Document menu.

See https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/tutorials/photo/desktop/video/309876656/

Ok in this Video he is saying to directly resize the Photo you have to the new document ? So do I create a separate new document and past the Project Image (One which I have made) on to the New Document or directly resize the Image that I have to a new Document ?

Which is most easy and advisable ?

I think you can just resize the current document. Keep in mind, as you are making your document dimensions bigger, it will never we crispy sharp and you will always have some blur/fuzziness.

Ok guys I directly tried to resize the Image after exporting it, and it is making the Image look very skewed. I think I jsut want to increase the height of the image not the width. If I select this options in Reszie Documents 6x4 inches 300 DPI, Resample-Non Seperable It is making the image look completely skewed.

have a look.

Try what I do in my attached video.

Note: What you are seeing in your last example is not skewing but stretching.

Ok, when I exactly try to follow the steps as you have mentioned in the Video I am getting this as the Final Result :(

It gets even more Tiny !

It looks like you have increased the height of the canvas by way too much in this case.
You need to choose a new height which looks right for your image, not the height I used in my video which was just a randomly-chosen rounded number which was larger then the original height for demonstration purposes.

Well it is still not working, even if I keep a very low Height Figure it is still not working. It is looking the same Tiny. For testing I even put this Dimensions of this image which is 1992x1780 of the attached image still it is not increasing the height of the image and instead making it more tiny.

That image looks okay to me – except for the background behind his left arm still being there from the original image.
However, I don’t understand what you mean by “tiny”, or exactly what you are trying to achieve.
Can you tell us
1. the dimensions of your image before you want to make it larger;
2. the dimensions you want the image to be after enlargement;
3. on which side(s) you want to ‘expansion’ to be?

Yes the last image I posted is correct as far as the size and dimensions I want, I missed to remove some background from that image and hence I am considering it as a waste, but I want to have the image size of that image so which when opened in any Photo Viewing APP on PC,Laptop or Tablet or Phone should cover enough screen space so that it is visible like a nice full image not some tiny small image, which is what happening at the moment.I am trying to have the image which looks like this last image uploaded.

The Dimension of the Image before Making it larger are 498X445 and I am trying to have an image which when opened in any Photo APP looks like the last one I uploaded.

Ok here is also the .afphotofile for you to play around incase you want to refer to that.

Your attached APHOTO document probably looks “small” when exported because the document is only 445×445 pixels in size.

If you already have an image which is the size you want then why not use that?

It’s probably just me but I don’t understand what you want to do. Maybe someone else can help you better.

The image the one with the yellowish background has a slight background which was missed by me, which was not masked so I cannot use it

I don't understand why. I downloaded your afphoto file, and had a quick look. From what I see, yes you can use it.

You can re-edit your mask, or just try masking it again. Tip: after you have selected your cutout, try using either New Layer with Mask or just New Layer. Those two do what's known as Color Decontamination, the others do not.

To help creating your selection you can use the Channels, creating a grey scale layer, then even enhance that, using a levels or curves adjustment, just to get the maximum contrast between the background and what you want to cut out.

I have prior engagements so I can't work much on it right now, but will try later this evening when I return home.

Hey Man ! Thanks. But I will have to crop it a little bit, as the left side is too wide compared to the right. The image appears too much in the right.

If I give you the .afphoto of this image. Can you help me remove the slight left over background in the afphoto file ?

By the way how did you remove it ? Paint on the Mask with Black is going to spill over in the surrounding areas aswell hence is a little not perfect.

In cases where a mask doesn't work that precisely, just take a very fine small brush (just a few pixels in size), set the brush color to the background color (use the color panel lupe for that) and draw around over the bad parts of the shirt edges one or two times.
