Dr_No
Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of “Mama, How Come … ?” Today’s Big Question is: Why does my monitor's screen bounce and jiggle in Affinity Photo and Designer? Is this a secret ‘restless screen’ syndrome at work? Example: When applying a small glow-y highlight to a bright area in Photo, the entire artboard moves as I try positioning the brush over the area(-s) to be highlighted. The only way I've been able to quiet that motion is to scroll to an area outside the live matter area / artboard (background) and click once. After that, I can scroll back in to the area and (generally but not consistently) the screen area remains stable. It's crazy-making. (1) Why does this behavior occur and, (2) How can it be prevented permanently? All answers and techniques welcomed and appreciated. Thanks to all in advance for your input. It is now officially Chocolate Donut Time, which will be celebrated with all appropriate probity and circumspection. If you believe that one, I have a little bridge over the East River in New York City that's on offer - I'll include riparian rights, too … Quote Mac Pro (Mid-2010) G5, 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon i7; macOS ‘Sierra,’ 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770; S271HL Acer Display (1920 x 1080); Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher 1.10.5, Photoshop CS6, Illustrator CS6, InDesign CS6, QuarkXpress 9.5.4.1, ON1 RAW 2020, Portrait Professional Studio64, Topaz Labs Suite, Nik Collection, NeoOffice; separate Western Digital external HDs for storage Proudly Wearing the Shame of ThoughtCrime …
Staff Lee D Posted October 11, 2021 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2021 Are you using the apps on macOS or Windows and can you provide a screen recording showing the bouncing? Have you gone into the apps Preferences > Performance and checked to see if Hardware Acceleration (Windows) or metal Compute (macOS) are enabled, if so disable restart the app and check again. Make sure the OS and graphics drivers are the latest available.
Dr_No
Thanks, Lee … unfortunately, a screencap would only display a stationary image. macOS ‘Sierra’ (10.12) isn't ‘Metal’-capable, so that wouldn't be a concern. I still use and need my 32-bit apps, which would be broken by an upgrade to a higher-version OS (e.g., ‘High Sierra’), so ‘Sierra’ will be End-Of-Road for Upgradeability until I'm forced to move ‘onward and upward’ in the Apple Hierarchy of OS-es. I think if you are using macOS Sierra you can Quicktime Player to make a screen recording following the same instructions for High Sierra here, but maybe not. Dr_No
Hmm … seems I likely mis-read the response. I'll check to see if Sierra lets QTP make a screen recording of the movement - and I'll check the HS instructions just in case (but usually higher version trix don't apply in lower versions) … Time now to see if that can be recorded Quote Mac Pro (Mid-2010) G5, 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon i7; macOS ‘Sierra,’ 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770; S271HL Acer Display (1920 x 1080); Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher 1.10.5, Photoshop CS6, Illustrator CS6, InDesign CS6, QuarkXpress 9.5.4.1, ON1 RAW 2020, Portrait Professional Studio64, Topaz Labs Suite, Nik Collection, NeoOffice; separate Western Digital external HDs for storage Proudly Wearing the Shame of ThoughtCrime …
