ronnyb Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hey guys, now that we have multiple art-boards, it would be great to have two separate Fit / Zoom commands, one to zoom to fit the current art-board, and another to zoom to fit ALL art-boards — Cmd + Opt + 0 (zero) would be great.... Thanks for all you do. anon1 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I´m curious about your shortcut table when the MAS version is out ;) I think I´d give it a try :) ronnyb 1
nravenlock Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 @ronnyb, With an artboard selected, shift+cmd+0 will zoom to that artboard. Are you talking about a scenario where you might have a layer selected inside an artboard and you want a shortcut to zoom to that artboard? The keyboard shortcut cmd+0 already zooms to 'Fit document' (which is effectively, 'Fit to all artboards'). Does this not work correctly for you? Many thanks.
A_B_C Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 And I am quite sure, that you all have seen the “Advanced” mode of the Navigator panel, Ronny … you can create custom viewpoints there, which is really great. What would be even better, if we could assign shortcuts to these view points as well … Cheers, Alex :)
ronnyb Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 @nravenlock, it's not working as you describe. Try this: Make a document with 3 page-sized art-boards, each next to the other. Add some shapes on each page for giggles. Now, WITHOUT the Artboard tool selected, using only the Move tool, if try what you described, you'll see doesn't work. Furthermore, there is no way to Zoom to Fit to an individual art-board. Currently, the only way to do it is to switch to the art-board tool, select the art-board you want to zoom to, and then press Zoom to Fit (Cmd+0). If you are expecting users to switch tools and select an art-board before being able to Zoom to Fit, you will loose any serious, production-minded designer. This behavior is not working properly at the moment. The important thing is to be able to navigate across art-boards while using any tool, not only the Art-board tool. We need 2 commands: 1. Zoom to Fit All Artboards, which behaves like the current Zoom to Fit (Cmd + 0) 2. Zoom to Fit, which by default only fits the current art-board which the user is working in (Cmd + Opt + 0) Thanks for your time and all you do @ronnyb, With an artboard selected, shift+cmd+0 will zoom to that artboard. But these are basic navigation / View commands which are not working properly... we shouldn't need to set up custom views. Plus once you move an Art-board, the viewpoints stop working. But thanks for the clever workaround :) And I am quite sure, that you all have seen the “Advanced” mode of the Navigator panel, Ronny … you can create custom viewpoints there, which is really great. nravenlock Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 @ronnyb, My description was brief and your detailed response has answered my questions. Yes, shift+cmd+0 will only work if an artboard is previously selected. If a layer is selected, it will zoom to the layer. This is the correct behaviour. Yes, a command to zoom to an artboard, regardless of which layer inside the artboard is selected, is an excellent suggestion. As far as I can tell, Zoom to All Artboards and Zoom to Fit (cmd+0) are identical commands. Unless I am misunderstanding your request? Many thanks.
ronnyb Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 @nravenlock, All I'm suggesting is adding an additional command, Zoom to Fit All Artboards (Cmd + Opt + 0) to show all Artboards, without having to select the Artboard tool. The current Zoom to Fit command should only apply to the CURRENTLY selected art-board, which is deemed current by one off these criteria: 1. user has an object selected inside that art-board 2. user has clicked an empty area inside the art-board 3. user selected the art-board from the Layers panel This behavior would apply to ALL tools, not just the Art-board tool. Right now there is no way to Zoom to Fit a single art-board in multiple art-board document via the keyboard shortcuts or menu commands. Having to select the Art-board tool and hit (Cmd + Shift + 0) is not a viable workflow method... Thanks for communicating this to the devs. @ronnyb, My description was brief and your detailed response has answered my questions. nravenlock Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 @ronnyb, I believe we're on the same wavelength but our terminology is getting confused so I have tried to remove it... Let's take the scenario that I have a rectangle selected. There needs to be the following three keyboard shortcuts: 1: To set the zoom so I see only that rectangle. 2: To set the zoom so I see only the artboard the rectangle is on. 3: To set the zoom so I can see all artboards in the current document. In the current beta 1.3.5.7, regardless of which tool is active: 1: Exists as shift+cmd+0. 2: Does not exist. 3: Exists as cmd+0. In the current beta 1.3.5.7, the workaround for scenario 2 is to select the artboard first and then use shift+cmd+0. An artboard can be selected using the Artboard tool (or the Move tool - if artboard is empty) or the Layer panel. I'll leave it to the devs to decide what name is given to each of these scenarios and we will document it as necessary. Hopefully this matches your thoughts. :) A_B_C and ronnyb 2
