I have a psd file which I previously worked on in Affinity Photo. When I open it now in Affinity it looks totally different. I have no idea why. I haven't touched the layers or anything else. I just opened it! I m a very basic user so it's probably a silly mistake but I'm lost and any help would be much appreciated!

Hi @juleee,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here, due to the 1.10 update and working from home our response time is longer than usual - but we're working hard to stay on top of this and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here!

Can you please provide a copy of the PSD file in question? This certainly isn't something that's reported often, I suspect it may be a colour profile issue but a sample of your file will help me to confirm this.

Many thanks in advance!

Can you give some more info as to what you are wanting to do in the image and what you were expecting to see when you reopened the file?

The file as it stands has two 'Levels Adjustment' layers but only the top one, masked to the background only, has any adjustment settings set. And is currently lightening the background.
The second one, third layer down, is masked to the necklace, and has no adjustment settings set.
I’m not sure what the additional two Background layers, second and forth layers down, are for? One contains the dark background only and the other the necklace only.

I have noticed that across different software my attached "limits" test file looks different. Usually the various software will crush the black so I have recorded my monitor brightness levels to view correctly in each program using the "Intel Graphics Command Centre"

For example on my Dell XPS 15 brightness for the various software is set as follows...

ACDSee Photo Studio Pro - 32

Affinity Photo - 34

SNS-HDR - 34

Chrome - 36

FSPViewer (360 Panos) - 32

It has made me realise that every combination will generate different results on different systems and different software and if sending out work to anybody to critically view to ask them to adjust so they can barely see the dark square on the left and white square on the right. Highlights are normally fine it's the Shadows that get impacted usually.

May not be your issue but you reminded me of how sensitive different systems are to view consistantly.

Good luck!

Cheers

Andrew

@juleee Many thanks for the .PSD file provided and my apologies for the delay once again!

I have downloaded this file here and opened it in both Affinity Photo and Photoshop, when compared next to each other on the same device, I do not see the same issue you're reporting - (AP left, PS right)

Can you please confirm for me, are you opening this PSD file directly in Photoshop, or in a different app where it appears darker? Is this on a different device from Affinity Photo?

Many thanks in advance once again :)

Looks the same to me in Photo and Photoshop (latest version). What does look different is when viewing a preview through Mac OS and in the Preview app in Mac OS. Background comes out very black. The attached screen shot is the quick view and the PSD opened in Preview.
