Can’t draw/erase over pixel layer

Recommended Posts

  1. I have an Artboard
  2. I placed an image (Png with a transparent background)
  3. I creates a pixel layer
  4. When I go to Pixel Persona, no tools are working. I was trying to erase some pixel from the .png
  5. The app crashes or freezes

From there, I open the app back on:

  1. Add a new pixel layer,
  2. Pixel Personal > Erase/brush not working
  3. Changing brush color not working also
  4. I go to the Vector menu, I can’t add a form/curve (square, triangle, etc...)

Also, it will be nice to limit the grid in the Artboard only...

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

It looks like you created a pixel layer on top of the PNG's Image layer. But if you're wanting to erase from that layer, you want to working on the PNG, not on a layer above it.

So:

  1. Don't create the pixel layer.
  2. But, to work on the pixels of the PNG it can't be an Image layer. It needs to be a Pixel layer. So you will need to Rasterize that PNG layer.

What model iPad do you have? I'd suggest a hard reset to clear ram and don’t have any other apps open as iOS will allocate ram to those background apps.

M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB   lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).

Affinity Publisher 2, Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2 and betas.

Hi NotAnnoyingKaren,

Without seeing the original document I cannot be sure, but it looks like you're current document size in pixels is huge. It is likely this reason that it is struggling to rasterise. The same would also be true if you try to use the eraser or any other pixel tool - it will attempt to rasterise the layer, but the size required is likely to large to fit in the iPad's memory.
