JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Is there anyway to convert the outline I have made under the Effects Panel to a shape? Many thanks Jack Quote
firstdefence Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Welcome to the forum @JackWinzar Short answer: No The reason is, it’s a raster effect, affinity can convert from vector to raster but not from raster to vector. JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 Thank you for your reply @firstdefence, I'm much more confident with photo than designer, but I don't understand why it's a raster effect, I can zoom into it without losing any quality. Would there be any other ways to achieve the same effect? I really would love to separate the outline layer from the shape. Many thanks, Jack Quote
G13RL Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 I don't know if this will work for you, but if you want to keep only the outline on one side and the shape without outline on another side, you can duplicate the shape, set "Fill Opacity" to 0% in the "Outline" fx window on one of the shapes and delete the "Outline" fx on the second. JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 @G13RL This is actually very helpful for me since I didn't know this but it isn't exactly what I meant. I want to be able to use the node tool to edit the points on the outline FX layer. Quote
G13RL Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 @JackWinzarI don't know if I understand your request correctly, but if you want to change the nodes or add/remove nodes, you can do so, but you can't apply pressure. Quote
JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 @G13RL So I'd like to be able to edit the nodes of it, but I'd like the outline to be part of the new shape. I tried rasterising and tracing it, but it is never 100% accurate. and I also tried rescaling the original shape, but ideally i'd like the proportions of the shape with the outline added. I'm sorry i'm struggling to explain! I hope you understand. Many thanks Jack Quote

I tried rasterising and tracing it, but it is never 100% accurate. Just use the original Shape converted to curves so you can use the node tool. The outline will remain as the outline. All this assumes you are using a Curve or Curves Layer. JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 @Old Bruce Thank you for your reply! My problem here is I know that I can keep the outline on any path I make, But I want to convert the path itself to a shape. OR any way of achieving a similar effect. Many thanks, Jack Quote
JackWinzar Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 Brilliant! I just figured it out. If I use the contour tool I can convert to shape that way. Thanks for your help everybody! Quote
