DNG files not opening

Thanks. It seems to be an issue with Serif Labs RAW engine. If you switch it to Apple RAW(in Assistant Options > Develop Assistant) it should work as expected. Issue logged,

Thanks. But no luck. See dialogue on top of result.

Other aspects of Develop Assistant work e.g. changing Tone Curve or bit depth of output changes appearance of image.

Once you change that to Apple RAW, you need to close the image and re-open in.

Sorry. I didn't make clear. I've done that: I chose the Apple RAW engine. I cancelled development to exit RAW developer, re-opened the file and still the fuzzy TV lines. If I proceed to develop, I get the TV lines. I also tried quitting AP and re-opening the file. That's what you see in the screenshot.

Also, I've tried opening other DNG files with no luck.

A note about the files: they're produced by PixelShift2DNG from Sony A7RM4 pixel-shifted files. Not that that should make any difference but may give you a clue.

I reckon it's just your old macOS version if Apple RAW engine still shows it wrong. I'm on Big Sur and it's correctly rendered. Can you open that DNG with the Preview.app?

So my thinking that this is more than one camera exposure is correct. I figured it from the file name. Is there any way the camera can spit out the four separate images? Although if you have Capture one and it is working ....

For what it is worth I get the same result as you do and I am on OS 10.14.6

Hi Bruce

The camera produces four separate images that are shifted one pixel east, west, south, north. PixelShift2DNG combines them into a single DNG. You make me think: I will try using the Sony software to combine them and see what happens.

To confirm: they do open fine in Capture One.

OK. I know I'm on a creaky old machine ... but it still works.

I'll have to rely on Capture One to render, then use AP to do what C1 can't do.

I'm afraid that's a macOS limitation if Preview does not open it, and there's no other workaround at the moment (apart from using Capture One). FWIW Big sur opens that file fine with Preview.
