Affinity Publisher keeps crashing every time I try to save file

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've been following all the threads about AfP crashing whenever you try to save the document - this started this afternoon for me and I'm now stuck half way through formatting a book. I'm running v1.9.1.979 on PC Windows 10.

It's happened before, months ago, when I tried to pin an image and I had to start the formatting process over again. I think this, unfortunately, is the final straw.

AfP is great in many ways but if it keeps preventing you from doing your work, there comes a point ...

Does anyone have any suggestions please, or do I have to start again with a fresh document?

Thanks for your help

Paul

All you can do it upload the document to see if there is a simple fix

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Hi Carl

I really appreciate you getting back to me about my crashing issue (I now realise it crashes if I try to change anything in the doc as well as when I try to save it).

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, the book's not really in a state where I can upload it publicly. I very happy to share it privately, but I don't want to impose on anybody - I appreciate that finding these random corrupted text frames can be tricky. I've checked every page of the doc to try to find any of these and I can't.

Thanks for your help

Paul

One of the support staff should contact you later and supply you with a private drobox area where you can send the document to them.

I've turned off Hardware acceleration, thanks.

But I can't seem to set-up the beta software after I downloaded and extracted the files.

I'll wait until one of the support staff contact me - but I appreciate from the sticky announcement at the top of the forum that they are extremely busy atm.

Thanks

Paul

Nobody from the support team contacted me, so I created a new document and started formatting it again.

The same bug happened again and it crashed and continues crashes when I try to save anything.

I've now figured out when it happened - both times I had pressed the back space three times when highlighting an italic phrase in the text which I had copied over from an earlier draft. I've no idea why this happens but without support, unfortunately, it seems I have no option but move to Indesign.

I have to admit I'm baffled how Serif expects new users to use a tool as relatively complex as Affinity Publisher without offering an option for paid support 😞

Hi @Paul McC,

First i need to apologise for the delay you've had in getting a reply from us.  Due a number of reasons, we got very behind on Support Tickets and are still catching, while also trying to keep on top of the new ones coming in.

If you still have the file that crashes on save, if you could upload it to our Dropbox here, and i'll take a look.

Also, i know we had a couple of save crashes related to Pinned Objects but from my understanding these were fixed in the last update.

Hi stokerg

Thanks for following-up with me. I started formatting the book from scratch again and eventually (after another unexplained corrupted file) manage to publish it, thanks. Though I'm dreading having to go back to the file in future for any corrections.

Sorry - I've now deleted all the corrupted files in case I opened them by mistake.

In terms of feedback for Serif as first-time user who isn't a professional designer - whilst there is much to like about AfP, tbh I would have to think long and hard about using it for my next book in terms of the repeated crashes and the lack of support. I had to format the book 3.5 times in total because of all the problems (some of which may have been user-inflicted, but, as a beginner, without support you can't diagnose the cause of any particular issue so the damage is the same). 😞

Thanks for getting back to me anyway

Paul
