Why no OpenCL in Photo on Windows 7 (split)

Recommended Posts

Sad to see Windows 7 is out of scope in terms of OpenCL Compute.

It is strange, since Nik Collection plugins, AlienSkin and even latest Topaz Denoise AI works perfectly with Windows 7, providing full support to OpenCL tech.

Looks like I'm forced to switch to Adobe again.

Adobe doesn't support Win 7 at all - they stopped developing new versions for Win 7 some time back (I know...I'm still running Win 7 on my main machine)

Windows 7 is out of scope for everything. It's end of life. You shouldn't be using it. Stop using Windows 7!

What? The performance of version 1.9.0 on Windows 7 and 8.1 is the same as it was for version 1.8.5 you've just missed out on a new feature. Why are you forced to switch?

Patrik, thanks for reply. I'm talking about unavailability to select OpenCL compute.

But anyways, Affinity Photo is way better program than PS.

I have no regrets that i bought it back in the past.

Win 10 is not an option. It is a data-mining telemetry platform like chrome browser.

And not all of telemetry can'be turned off.

Forced updates. Constant bugs. Awful dual control panel system with pretty bad ergonomics.

In Blender it has 10% worser performance compared to Win 7.

EOL? ESU till 2023.  Then custom kernel extensions. PS 2020, AE 2019, PR 2019 works just fine.

I'm pretty satisfied with OS. After internet stops working will switch to Linux.

Well, you won't have issues with automatic updates anymore when you stick to windows 7. That's for sure..

OpenCL in Affinity Photo requires DirectX 12 which is only available on windows 10. So either upgrade to a supported operating system or stop complaining.

If you want to run an out of date operating system then that's fine but you cannot expect the rest of the world to join you or even take you into consideration. Windows 7 is officially end of life. Period. The rest of the world moved on (well, a big part of it anyway).

I'm not complaining , just expressed my opinion on that.

Direct 12 is available under Win 7. Check the news. However, it's up to developer to implement it or not.

And yeah, i'm not expecting that somebody join me. Don't care about it at all.

Wow, you're right..
It was somewhere in 2019 while Windows 7 was still supported.

Learned something new today... Thanks

Honestly no one should be on W7 anymore and any or all compatibility issues are really a mute point. I sympathize with you and all because I know a fair few people still on W7 but it's a dead OS now, no more support, no more security updates. I'd go as far as to say if you want to use W7 dont have the internet on it. It certainly shouldn't be anywhere on a todo list for software like Affinity either. I would say though if you want a secure OS  that doesnt data mine you and you want affinity, go with MacOS. It's not the best of both worlds because Mac isn't great but it is secure at least.
