Application help defunct

Recommended Posts

It is the opposite of helpful to provide an index that links to dead pages for every platform specific function.

Either providing a platform specific index or linking to a landing page "sorry, not for your OS" would be helpful.

And by the way: why shouldn't I read the Mac online help in Windows and vice versa - I think using the browser OS as indication is not a good idea.

Scanning isn't available on windows and the (online) help sees that your OS is windows

We need to distinguish between ‘in-app’ Help (i.e. pages displayed in the Help window within the app) and ‘online’ Help (i.e. web pages displayed in your browser). The online Help is largely Mac-based, with occasional references to differences in the Windows apps.

Online Help pages such as the one at

https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/GetStarted/scanningImages.html?title=Scanning images

should never be empty, regardless of the platform or browser used to access them.

@siaccarino

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :)

Morning - i've made a change to topics like this so that Windows users will at least see some topic text being reported. In this instance, that scanning is not available directly from within the app.

Also interested in discussions about help being conditionally displayed according to the reader's browser user agent. We decided to take this approach so our Mac users wouldn't be offered unnecessary Windows information in-app and vice versa for Windows users. It's something docs could look at in V2.0. Further opinions?

Simply removing some content from display based on user agent is confusing.

Searching for info on a particular feature should not return nothing, which is what happens now.

Finally I figured-out that the online Help is showing different info based on operating system.

Frustrated, I fed it what it wanted using a site downloader and downloaded the whole thing. At least now I have ALL the Help.

Users should be able to see all the Help, with notations that it only applies to a particular OS.
