Cloning issue in Affinity Photo on Ipad

Recommended Posts

I cannot for the life of me get the cloning tool in Affinity Photo to work on my Ipad.  I believe I have checked everything - I'm working on a pixel layer, using a basic brush, opacity is up to 100% but still no luck - it doesn't work!  When I put my finger on the screen, I try and select an area (I see the circle and the cross hairs) but when I move the selected circle over to the area I want to clone..nothing happens.  It's like I didn't do anything.  I can't find any tutorials dealing with this specific issue on an Ipad and I'm getting very frustrated.  Can anyone help?

On the context toolbar press the small white triangle and on the next screen make sure source is set to current layer and below, finally make sure you are on a pixel layer in the layers studio.

I like to add a pixel layer, select it and set clone tool as Paul suggested, current layer and below. Make sure your Source layer is a pixel layer, not an image layer. If the latter you will need to rasterise the layer before you can clone.

You set the clone position by pressing with finger and sliding so crosshair becomes the source. Release and now you pencil/finger will paint the cloned source onto the pixel layer. Note you can’t use your finger for cloning if you have Touch for Gestures Only selected.

Hi there, I’m having the exact same problem. I can’t activate the The clone tool, although the inpainting tool works but I’m also having trouble to activate copy and paste on the iPad. I did everything the same as shown in this little video here but still nothing happens, sometimes the little cross appears, but most of the time not even that.

How do you move the crosshair about the screen?

If you're asking about the Clone Source crosshair, @DM1 gave the instructions three posts above yours.

I appreciate this thread, but had another question. I’m using a Pencil 2 and in trying to select the source the circle appears, but without the crosshairs. They only show if I use my finger to select the source. Has anyone else had this occur and is there a way have the Pencil activate the crosshairs? Thanks!

That is the way it works. Use a finger to select the source. Use the Pencil to do the cloning. You cannot select the source with the pencil. This is the way it was designed to work.
