Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @affinityuser13. :)

Unfortunately it isn’t possible to download an earlier version from the Mac App Store. The only way to downgrade would be to use a backup created with Time Machine or similar.

Do you want to downgrade because of something that isn’t working as you would expect in the latest retail release? Have you tried the 1.9 beta version?

Another reason not to buy SW from resellers, but directly from the manufacturer.

There are plenty of software developers that don't let you download earlier versions, either.

Which, fortunately, is not the case with Serif applications, we are talking about here.

Not entirely sure on this yet, since I did this some time before with other MAS third party apps. - Some informations and possible tryout procedures can be read for example here.

Though the Affinity reps should know and thus should be able to tell for sure.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Thanks for the link, but it seems to be about ignoring updates that are being offered, not about reversing updates that have already been installed.

The overall tryout procedure would be to ...

  1. ... first backup your current version installment (compress/zip, or via time machine) in order to have a safe backup copy
  2. ... then delete/remove the current installed version and possible app /library entry dependencies from your system
  3. ... next find on MAS your "purchases" software references ...
  4. ... and see if it offers you for the specific app also previous version downloads

I’m not a Mac user, but from what I’ve read the MAS doesn’t offer any previous versions of the Affinity apps (which is why I wrote that it isn’t possible to downgrade).

This is something that could be easily offered by Serif. All they have to do is provide the older version in the same way that they do the beta.

Do they offer beta versions via the MAS? :/

No, but the beta checks for a valid install (either app store or direct version) in order to activate.

Thanks for the clarification. I suppose in theory they could allow users of the MAS version to download earlier versions with the same check built in, but the current Affinity Store versions rely on product keys and (unlike beta versions) they never expire, so something would clearly have to change.
