Opening iOS AD files on Windows PC (Was Olivia)

Hi, 

I'm a high school graphics student and am currently using affinity designer in my course. I have purchased affinity designer iOS for home use but can seem to get my files open on windows, how do I convert my files so they open on both.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Olivia.

Affinity documents share a single file format, so as long as you’re using the latest version of AD on both platforms the Windows version should be able to open any documents saved from the iPad version (and vice versa).

In addition to what Alfred said above, we need more information about what you are doing and what is happening.
Just saying that you can’t open the file(s) is too vague for us to diagnose the issue. A bit like telling your doctor that you don’t feel well but not giving them any information about symptoms or which bit of you is poorly.
If you tell us exactly what you are doing with the files and what happens at each stage of the process then we can advise better.

Note: If your documents are using things like fonts or colour profiles which are only on your iPad then you may have problems but we can’t tell what the problem could be until you tell us precisely what is happening.

Have you purchased the Windows version of Affinity Designer as well? If not, you will not be able to open Affinity Designer documents on your PC. From your iOS version you should be able to export common file formats like .pdf, .jpg, .svg etc.

Im not completely sure what the issue is, but it is probably that it’s not the latest version. Is there anyway to fix that.

What version is your ADesigner for iPad and what version is your ADesigner for Windows? Do you get an error message, when you try to open the ADesigner document on Windows? Perhaps you can upload the file in question here.

I have affinity for the Mac computer version but my school has a Microsoft version I don’t know what one but can I change it to like a universal one so I can open it on any version

You stated earlier that you have the iPad version. The Mac (desktop) version is yet another variant, but you should be able to open your file in the latest version of any Affinity app on any supported platform. What error message/s do you get?

Yeah I have the affinity Apple Mac iOS version, the error message is saying I don’t have the latest version of windows.

The operating system for an Apple Mac is macOS (or OS X). The operating system will only be iOS you’re using an iPad.

What version of Windows do you have? If you’re not sure, hold down the WinKey (the key with the Windows logo, to the left of the space bar) and press R to display the ‘Run’ dialog, and then type winver in the box and press ‘OK’. Please post the information from the window that pops up, or attach a screenshot.

Thank you I’ll need to wait until tomorrow to find out what version it is as it’s a school computer, but I won’t be able to update or change the software for windows
