Tables spanning several pages

Recommended Posts

Something that I would find very useful would be to create a table that spans several pages, and dynamically adjusts to fit the pages when rows are added or removed. For example, the sort of thing I need to do is create a telephone list, in alphabetical order, of around 1000 staff, so that when people are added or leave I can add or remove entries and the table reformats to fit the pages/frames. Alternatively, it would be good to be able to import a table from Excel etc and have it flow through frames in the same way as in text frames. AFAIK this isn't possible at the moment (if it is I'd be grateful for advice about how to do it). If not I would like to suggest that it might be added.

Now that a beta with data merge just came out, I think it just might be possible to achieve. Rather than setting it up as a table, I think in your case you could set it up with tabs carefully defined in the paragraph style. As for the table headings, since Publisher can't yet do multi-page tables, I would set up the table headings as a master page.

Thanks for that. I'll have to investigate Data Merge further. 😊
