RainerH Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Hello, please can you have a look on the attached file. I want to cut out the 2 and the 4 from the blue object that the grey rectangle is shining through the blue object. But it doesn't work. When I select the blue object and one of the digits ant then press subtract the digit changes to blue and the border from the digit is shown when I clic on the blue object. When I draw a new rectangle on top of the blue object I can cutout this from the blue object by selecting both of them and clicking on subtract. When I move one of the digits on top of the grey rectangle and select both then I can subtract the digit from the grey rectangle. I tryed it with the digits before and after chanching them into curves. What am I doing wrong? Thenk you for your help. Rainer Problem.afdesign Quote
lepr Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Your lowest (in the layer stack) operand for the subtraction (the blue object) has winding fill mode instead of alternate fill mode, so the result of the subtraction is given winding fill mode. Either change that object's fill mode to alternate before the subtraction, or change the result's fill mode to alternate. Layer > Fill Mode > ... to inspect or edit the fill mode. Quote
Alfred Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 The blue ‘Logo’ layer is a Curves object. Select that layer and press ‘Divide’ to separate into two Curve (singular) objects. Now select the main curve on the left and subtract one or both* of the digits: the triangle on the right isn’t affected by the subtraction, so it doesn’t need to be included. *If you ‘Add’ the two digits, you’ll get a Curves object which you can subtract from the blue shape in a single operation. RainerH Posted May 13, 2020 Author Posted May 13, 2020 Thank you. After chanching the fillmode it work. What's the difference beetween fillmode "winding" and "alternate"? What are this two fillimodes needed for? Quote

firstdefence Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 You can also use Layer > Create Compound and set the 24 to subtract, this has the added benefit of component editibility. No fill mode change is necessary. You can also keep text as text.
