I'm trying to print selected pages from a document. Every time I select a number of pages it wants to print the whole document. The other selections (Odd pages, Even pages, Current page) are not appropriate. How do I print a range? Online threads just say "Select your range and pages options, not what each option does.

Others have reported similar problems...

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Is it possible this is another of those problems that affects only Catalina users?

I ask because I have run some tests on my Mac running Mojave & printing page ranges seems to be working correctly, although occasionally but not repeatably I have been able to cause it to want to print only the first page of a range by toggling "Hide Details" off & on again.

Note that for my tests I was not actually trying to print anything to save paper. Instead, I was relying on the page previews in the print dialog set to show details, & also using the PDF > Save as PDF option to save to PDF documents to verify that the page previews are what I would get if I really was printing. But I did (by accident) really print out one of the tests & it was consistent with the previews & the PDF version.

I have tested using several different entries in the "Pages:" field, including ones like 2-5,7,8 to output a range that skips some pages. This even works with the Range set to odd or even pages, so that only odd or even pages within the specified range are output.

One thing I did notice: for the previews to update to the selected range, I have to exit out of the "Pages:" field, for example by pressing the Tab key or clicking into the "Copies:" or "Scale:" fields. But even if I did not do that, the PDF's included only the specified pages, so that probably does not matter.

The only other thing I can think of is this is somehow related to the specific printer chosen for the output, or its driver software.

I am using Mac Catalina (10.15.3). Following your advice I clicked away from the pages tab (onto Assets), selected Print then Entire Document, then a page range. It still prints the whole document. This clearly is a bug in the software that needs attention.

I can get around it by creating a PDF of the whole file then printing selected pages from that.

BTW the printer I'm using is HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M281fdw.
