Affinity installed 1.8.0.585  on my desktop (Windows 10)  and notified me via e-mail that 1.8 was installed. The new edition will not open except for an initial blank Affinity window which then closes. Since 1.8 overwrites the previous functioning edition, what are my options to have a working software edition.

Welcome to the forum Dick Ridge :)

Unfortunately, we've had quite a few reports of this from other users and we're investigating. You could try the latest beta builds, from the beta section on this forum, to see if they work or you can temporarily revert back to 1.7.3 from the below links. I will update this post tomorrow when back in the office with more information.

Thank you for your response. I had re-downloaded 1.7.3 before you  responded, but found that I had not saved the key to open the software. Subsequently, I deleted  Photo 1.7.3 and 1.8.0 from my desktop. I guess my option at this point is to purchase 1.8 when the “bug” has been corrected. If there is any way to put me in a que for subsequent notification of a fix, I would appreciate it.  Dick

From your original description it sounds like the software automatically updated, which would mean you purchased it from the Microsoft Store rather than directly from Serif. In that case you do not have a product key, as the Affinity purchase is tied directly to your Microsoft account.

And unless the 1.7.3 version downloaded from Serif will still run in Trial mode it wouldn't help you.

If you did purchase from the Microsoft Store, all you'll need to do is reinstall from that store when the problem is resolved.

And if you did that reinstall now, then you could try installing the newly released 1.8.1.595 beta to see if that might work for you.

I am using the Microsoft Store. I deleted and re-installed the software with the same result. Dick

Thanks for getting back to me. We're still investigating this issue. Because you're using the Microsoft Store version, it's not currently possible to roll back to 1.7.3. You could try the beta builds to see if they work any better but I think you'll get the same issue. When I have more information, I will let you know.

Hi @Dick Ridge Just wanted to let you know that we have released a new beta build for both Affinity Photo and Designer on Windows that will hopefully improve/fix our apps from crashing on startup when loading fonts. Can you download and install to see if the app(s) starts without any issues?

The new beta fixed the issues with Photo & Designer but I am still having the same issue with Publisher. Should I uninstall and install the 1.73? If I do that will it affect my use of Photo & Designer in Publisher?

The latest beta build for Affinity Publisher has this fix too and can be found below. I would use 1.7.3 if that works better for you and then update to the latest 1.8 update when made publicly available.

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have released the new update, 1.8.2, that fixes the issue users were having where the app wouldn't get past the loading screen because of fonts. If you purchased the app from the Affinity Store you can download the update from:

If you purchased the app from the Microsoft Store the update will be available to download from the updates section.
