skylamar Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Hi. I am using Affinity Designer for Mac. I work a job part-time and the company recently asked me to edit their logo. My computer at work is a PC and doesn't have any image-editing software, so I'm using my personal Mac for the logo. A previous employee had made the logo using Photoshop and I have that file. The logo is just two lines of colored text over a colored rectangle. So, tonight I installed the font used for the logo. Then I opened the PSD file in Affinity Designer. All the layers were there and the text layers were editable. However, as a test, I exported the file from Affinity Designer to a PSD file and then opened the exported file back into Affinity Designer. Everything looked good, except the text had been changed to Pixel layers; I had hoped they would be retained as text layers. I exported as PSD (preserve accuracy) and then PSD (preserve editability) and got the same result both times. Is there anything else I can do to make Affinity Designer save the text layers as text layers when exporting to PSD? I was hoping I could export the updated logo as a PSD file with editable text so that future employees at the company wouldn't need Affinity Designer to edit it. As a side note: I don't own Affinity Photo, but I do own Pixelmator Pro. And Pixelmator Pro also had a hard time exporting to PSD. Pixelmator Pro's PSD export retained the text layers as text layers, but the rest of the formatting (colors, positioning) were off. Thanks! Skylamar Quote
Staff Lee D Posted January 15, 2020 Staff Posted January 15, 2020 When exporting to PSD text layers will always be rasterised, this is due to how our export engine works. Our developers do want to redesign and it may be something done in a future update. Quote

Is there some reason exporting to PDF, or possibly to SVG, would not meet this requirement? skylamar Posted January 15, 2020 Author Posted January 15, 2020 Lee, thanks for the info. I do hope your designers redesign the export in the future to retain text layers. R C-R, the people at my company who asked me to fix the logo don't know much about image formats. They do know the original file is a Photoshop file, so I would rather create an updated logo also as a Photoshop file. Quote
Wilson Yan Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 hope this feature would come along soon! Quote
Wilson Yan Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 just thought, this feature may deserve a second-time purchase! Pls take my money! Quote
Afromalone Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 I've had the same problem. A solution is to export the file in Affinity Photo as a .PDF and use photopea.com to save that file as a .PSD file. The resulting file will have editable text layers in Photoshop. It would make life a lot easier if it were enabled in Affinity photo. I can't leave Adobe until that feature exists in the Affinity apps unfortunately. Quote
