Nik1
If I purchase Affinity Designer as a private individual and install it on my laptop, then as well as using it personally, can I also use it commercially while working in a business whether the business belongs to me or someone else? Staff StevenS Posted October 24, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 24, 2019 Hi @Nik1, Welcome to the Affinity forum. You can use Affinity apps on as many devices as you require for your own use providing that they are the same operating system. For example, if you purchase a Mac licence, you can install on as many Macs as you require for your own use. You can only use it on devices that you ‘own or control’. Previous discussion about this issue has reached the conclusion that your employer, not you, is the one who ultimately owns or controls your work computer, even if you control it on a day-to-day basis. So your employer (the business owner) would need to purchase a licence in that scenario. carl123
Mmmm, I'm not sure if the OP is saying he takes his laptop to a business and uses his laptop there or not If so, he can certainly use it commercially if the business belongs to him (as asked) If the business belongs to someone else then can the OP use his laptop and his legally installed copy of the software to do work "at" that business? I would have thought so as that's what some of us do, isn't it? Or maybe it would depend on if the OP was an employee of the business or just a contractor etc? I think the OP may need to clarify exactly what equipment (who owns/controls it) will be used at the business and if they are employed at the business or just doing some work for them etc etc etc for Serif to be able to give an accurate answer to their query. If the OP is an employee, he probably shouldn’t be using his own software on his employer’s premises (for personal or commercial purposes) other than outside of working hours. If the OP is a contractor rather than an employee I would have thought it doesn’t matter where he uses his own computer, so using it at someone else’s business premises should be perfectly acceptable. Nik1
Thanks for the feedback. What I really needed to know was if I buy Affinity Designer as a private individual and install it on my personal laptop that I own (not a business laptop), then may I use it not just personally but also when working in my own business. It's sound like I can. Thanks again.
