  1. Suggested improvements to States feature: Ability to rearrange order of States. Ability to rename States. Ability to group States in names Groups. Ability to capture unique File/EXIF/IPTC data per State. Safeguard accidental deletion of States. Safeguard accidental update of States. Safeguard accidental deletion: the Add and Delete buttons for States are very small and very close together. The incidence of accidentally clicking Delete while trying to add a new State is very high. Delete has no confirmation and no undo. Options: relocate buttons or confirm delete or undo delete State using document History? Same problem with hitting Update when aiming for Settings. Metadata: layer States are effectively subdocuments/variants, which when exported often need specific amendments to metadata (eg: if a layer containing a cat is turned off, there should no longer be a metadata tag for 'cat' when exported). At the moment, the only solution is to mash metadata for all States together and then amend metadata manually when exporting them, as was the case before States were available. If States captured metadata it would be very useful. [As an aside, I would add editing tag metadata is currently difficult because there is a text justification and scrolling bug for that field creating abnormally large gaps between tags that constantly shift while typing, making it hard to proof-read tags for punctuation and spacing errors. Tags have to be edited in Notepad and pasted in because it is too difficult to type them directly.]
  2. Hi, I would like to suggest adding a Path Width Tool for easier and more precise stroke adjustments. This tool would allow users to thicken the outline at specific points by simply clicking and dragging with the mouse. Other software like Adobe Illustrator and Amadine have a stroke width tool. The current method, using the Pressure chart in the Stroke panel, is not as user-friendly or accurate as it could be. Current method: Suggested (like Amadine or Adobe Illustrator):
  3. Hi, I don't know if this is an available option already, but if not, I would be practical to directly create shapes in a group of layers, by that I mean, let's say for example I'm creating a 3d object on the isometric grid, and I would like to put all the top shapes directly in a group of layers as I create them, so, just imagining here, I go on Window, select Group Layer, now every time I create a shape it goes directly in that group and when I've finished i can rename it Top Shapes for example and I I have the option of locking them all at once or hide them, do the usual stuff you can do on groups of layers, now I can create a new Group Layer and put all my side shapes or front shapes etc. I hope that was clear enough 🀣
  4. Measure Tool is great. I hope in the near update, I can convert the "measurement outcome" to an object, then I can modify the style of the arrow,... Because in some works requirements, I have to make a lot of measurements notes.
  5. i would really love to have a stabiliser mode in Photo/Designer that works the same way the procreate one does. Unfortunately, it’s really difficult to describe or even show in a video, it has to be experienced first hand, but here’s the best one i could find that kinda/sorta shows what i mean:
  6. Reported and requested by serveral customers since v1. Could the grey page border and what not be hidden in at least preview mode in Publisher. More history:
  7. Hi, I know there was already a topic like this. But always, when I try to resize pixel art or old graphics (low resolution), it always destroys my work and creates blurred edges. Affinity Photo has a tool named Pixel Tool, and in Serif 2.3, they added a pixel grid. And I think Affinity can be good software for editing pixel art graphics, but having the ability to change interpolation during resizing would significantly enhance its capabilities in this regard. I do not want to rescale the whole document, I want to rescale one or two elements in the document. Like Draw Plus 😎 (bugged version with immutable german language as default): or like Gimp:
  8. Hi Serif Staff In this thread, I realised that your 'Point Transform Tool' is really just a Scale Tool, which is a very fast and well-known tool from Adobe Illustrator and Blender, for example. Just with a configurable origin. Shouldn't you re-brand it as a Scale Tool - something with the word Scale in it, at least - so that customers actually understand the tool, Point Transform Tool probably misses your average customer, and if you search for scale tool designer or similar you won't find it. It might also be an opportunity to rethink the tool in that context - both you and your customers must have needs and ideas that are waiting for their chance. πŸ™‚ In other words, my suggestion is to turn the approach to Point Transform Tool from an engineering angle to a customer-oriented angle, and at the same time create some recognisability and reusability from similar programs out there.
  9. Hey Serif staff I've had good use of the knife tool and I almost always use it with guides. Unfortunately, the line that the knife tool cuts along is drawn with the exact same blue colour as selected objects and the default colour of the guides, so I think you should change the knife tool colour to... red maybe. And before I suggest it, yes, I know you can painstakingly change the colours of the guides from document to document; that's not the essence, it's that I'm suggesting a usability improvement that always benefits everyone. πŸ“πŸ€™πŸ»
  10. I have been using Affinity for about a year now after jumping ship from Adobe. Overall I love the apps and have not had issues learning new workflows. However, there is one item that is constantly interrupting things for me. I am a front-end developer and very frequently switch between apps while working. I normally keep Designer or Photo open, zooming in and out for reference then switching to another app and back. When an Affinity app comes into focus by clicking on the canvas the current tool activates at the same time. As far as I am aware these are the only apps that behave in this manner. I'm using macOS, not sure if this behavior is cross platform. For example if I have the zoom tool selected then click to my text editor, when I click on the cavas in an Affinity app it will both focus on the app and zoom in a level. It sounds so minor, but when working it gets infuriating needing to constantly make adjustments to get me back to where I was.
  11. I spend a huge amount of time over the year and even over a working day changing defaults in the FX window. The assumption of the user interface is obviously that this is functionality only used occasionally by the customer, but the opposite can very much be the case. For example, I change the Bevel & Emboss type from Pillow to Inner every time I use it. Thousands of times over time. This makes using Designer on the iPad a particular pain in the arse. Could it be possible for this dialogue to have a menu with options such as Set as default and Reset to defeaults (in a suitable place on the iPad as well). Then you could perhaps also save Scale with object as default. πŸ™‚ I know about workarounds, styles etc. but am looking for a non-workaround based solution. Thank you for this. πŸ™‚
  12. I've used the recolor layer to use copies of some objects (groups with several objects or bitmap objects) in areas of the illustration with a different colour or hue, I just had to fine-tune the colour to the new surroundings and to my surprise, the starting point is, for example, HSL 0.100%.0 = glowing red: Can we please get a colour picker in this dialog so I can quickly select the colour I want to recolour the selection to - or use the colour picker somewhere on the selected object so I can use the object's own colour as a starting point instead of the glowing red default colour: It will be a quick fix that can shave some silly wasted seconds off an otherwise trivial workflow. Thank you. And maybe the default colour in that dialog should be neutral - HSL 0,0,50 / RGB 128,128,128?
  13. I edit a lot of gradients on a lot of objects, either after copy styling to a new object or I do it on a lot of duplicates, to either vary a tiny bit from each other to give an illustration a more natural look, or simply to adapt a copy of an element to different lighting conditions or give it a colour cue to fit into the part of the illustration it has been moved to. I miss the ability to adjust hue or saturation or lightness for ALL gradient stops by simply dragging the slider for e.g. hue when the object is selected. Could also be great if it worked on a selection of objects with gradients (could even then apply the change to the fill on objects with no gradient). Couldn't this be an option with a modifier, Command + drag slider, whatever? It would really be a life saver for me. This might be of most value in scenarios where some nuance or saturation errors around a design need to be corrected on a number of objects, perhaps even close to deadline and under pressure. Technically, it must be doable within reason, and therefore perhaps a low-hanging fruit. πŸ™‚
  14. I suggest a Reset/Clear/remove all effects button in this dialog. It's tiresome to start over for example when the object is a copy of an object with several fx you don't need in the copy. As there is no OK Cancel options in this dialog a confirmation dialog is mandatory.
  15. I use this dialog constantly, day in and out - it can float above my illustrations and updates to show FX for the currently selected element which is awesome. Unfortunately it takes up quite a bit of screen estate so I often close it only to reactiveate it minutes later. Can it be modified to function as a collapsible element that can be reduced to just the title bar and folded in and out as needed? Just like panels. This may be what you've tried to achieve with Quick FX, but the settings I need are always hidden, so it's not so quick to use. No good:
  16. I'm a little surprised that all blending modes have shortcuts, when some of the more common operations don't have shortcuts on the iPad, which I use non-stop with a keyboard when I'm not in the office, because it's so time-consuming and interruptive to use the tablet interface, so here's a suggestion - as an example: Select commands! Especially Select parent - a life saver when I have selected a child element by accident - and in many other scenarios. Firstly, it will make it easier and faster to use an iPad Pro with a keyboard - and even better, it will enable you to take your work routines and muscle memory from the desktop with you when travelling, visiting work, on planes and in public transport. And just focus on working - not stumbling around in user interfaces. And, please, as suggested seperately, add a "Select all on current level" (fx nested under an object" - I use this very often when I have modified an object inside a group or nested inside an object, and need to quicly select the rest of the objects and paste the style or FX. Thanks! πŸ™‚
  17. What I'm thinking of is an alternative to the classic layers: a node editor, where each layer would now be a node, with a mask and before input, so that you can reuse layer groups. What I'm thinking of: Each node has inputs and outputs depending on the type (example blur: input=image, radius form=type, radius, output=image) Creating groups and naming them storing created groups as global templates (like macros, but as components that can be stored) adding custom inputs to groups with custom labels maybe sharing groups online? (like as a marketplace for quick templates) As an orientation for how it would work, I would like something like Blender 3Ds node editor. As for how it's integrated into the UI, either it's a separate editor that you need to toggle on/off on a per-project basis, or it's a layer (like a node layer or something) that then opens a UI
  18. Hi Serif staff Since the beginning of Affinity, the icon for converting to curves in desktop applications has looked like this: In other words, both an icon that tries to illustrate the functionality - and then a very wide text description on top of it. This is a rather extensive and unnecessary waste of screen space for a functionality that is presumably mostly used by experienced customers who can make do with less, and who most importantly understand a simpler and smaller toolbar button. On top of that, the icon as I remember it looks different in the iPad applications, here it is just an icon, but a completely different icon with a triangular symbol. I didn't realise until late that the triangular icon was actually convert to curves, and this confusion is natural when different icons represent the same functionality. I therefore suggest that you reduce the toolbar button to just a square graphical icon with no text and standardise the icon between the desktop and iPadOS versions of Affinity.
  19. I think there is too much manual labour in inserting content in picture frames and that one of the options for inserting content is hidden in the left menu: I recommend that double-clicking on an empty picture frame activates the insert file dialogue I recommend that you consider a small row of small icons over a selected content element, where an empty picture frame could have two or three small icons (not just in this frame - use them as a general UI concept) 1) Insert or replace image (if one is already inserted) 2) Paste image as content icon (currently only in the right-click menu) 3) Clear Picture Frame icon For me, this would be functionality that would make work faster and easier, especially on the iPad. As a bare minimum a bit more context sensitive options in the right click menu.
  20. Affinity Designer is a good tool to work with, but like Adobe Illustrator, Apple Pages and some other applications, I'd like to have a text frame that can flow to another frame. I know that I can import text frames from Publisher, but I need the native feature so I can add more text frames if I need to. Thank you
  21. Heya! I'm curious if supporting non-square pixel aspect ratios is planned. I come across that issue quite often when working with footage shot on anamorphic lenses - with different pixel aspect ratios of 1.6:1, 1.8:1 or 2:1. It would be great to have a way of loading & displaying those in a desqueezed way, without destroying the metadata when saving them out again for further use in compositing applications. Any insights on that? PS: I'm not looking for a workaround like transforming the image manually etc. - I'd love to have a native way of dealing with that :)
  22. Hi Affinity's Developer Team, Really glad about the newest feature. I've been using Affinity like from 2018 (wow, its been 7 years). I just have one suggestion, can you make the update feature from application to be updated to latest one? I've been using, the 2.0.4 for several months (I skipped the 2.1 since I don't really need the updated feature there), but after v.2.2 I want to update from application, but the application suggest me to upgrade to 2.1 first (not 2.2). And I think its such a waste of time to upgrade into v2.1 when there is v2.2 out there. Thanks for the great application by the way. (Oh, its my first time posting, and I don't really know where to post a suggestion.. so if I do it wrong please kindly remind me)
  23. Hello, I use many sets of icons and logos that I save in the assets. Many are just black icons - with the dark mode, they are very very difficult to see. It would be very good to have the option to set the color background for the asset (at Sub-Category level). It would be also useful to have the option to define the "preview" size. I have saved some "large" logos and I wish I can have a "full picture" preview rather than just looking at the left part. Thank you! Mario Gattone
  24. I made this example to see what appears if I hover over to the attention sign. what I simply suggest is add more detail like this: "Miscellaneous>Find in Layers Panel" this really saves time πŸ™‚ app version is designer 2.1.1
  25. I had the pleasure of using Aldus and Macromedia Freehand back in the day. Many of its features I still miss in Illustrator, Affinity Designer and others. One of them is to be able to convert any vector line into a Guide. Straight lines, bezier curves, standard shapes, custom shapes - all had the option "Make Guide" which made it very convenient to construct geometrical designs - like a double point perspective projection. This was so easy to do with Freehand, draw a horizon line, the perspective points, set up the perspective lines, make guide and lock them in place. The guides in Affinity across the board are so lackluster in comparison to how they worked in Freehand. Please please, pretty please make Affinity Designer more like the modern age Freehand and start with the power and flexibility of its Guides system. Thanks :)
