  1. I got this message that a font is missing in the preflight. In font manager all shows OK so this is related to an imported PDF file. This imported PDF is a generated report and I have chosen a font that I already use in the document, but still it shows as missing? Is the only way here to rastersize this? Would be great to just leave as is and when updated I wont need to do the process again.
  2. I'm disappointed that FONTS are no longer available on the top left menu of Designer 1.8.3! This must have been in an "update". Having the font at the top left was so practical. I liked the quick reference of FONTS at the top menu and now its literally a chore to have to go find the FONT info in the character tab. FONTS have always been in the studio but I always used the more convenient option in the Toolbar. It would have been helpful to at least leave an option for users to put the Fonts menu back in the Toolbar using the "Customize Toolbar" option, but it is not an option. I think this was a bad software design move. I know it's just a small thing and we will all learn to live with it. I'm most disappointed that I actually feel this way... and that it has affected my enjoyment of using Affinity Designer. 😥
  3. Hi! I must say that I'm coming to love Affinity software! I'm trying to figure out how I can disable font smoothing when using a tff format pixel font. I've tried following instruction below (adjusting the coverage map), which does remove the anti-aliasing but the font becomes mangled. Is this supported for this in Affinity Photo? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/57282-how-to-turn-off-anti-aliasing-for-text/ Thanks Jim
  4. Hi, I just wanted to check if there a way to see the list of fonts used in a Affinity Designer document? I generally convert all the fonts to curve before sending the file (PDF) to printer to avoid missing fonts issue. But some font's don't get converted with ctrl+select (eg. fonts used in symbols). Finding the list of fonts in the document would help to identify if there's still some fonts that are not converted. Thank you.

    FontExplorer X

I just wanted to let everyone know that Monotype, the creators of FontExplorer X, told me via a tweet that they definitely have Affinity products on their radar for integration. This is really good news, however as with all software development they have not been able to provide a timeline. I recommend that everyone who wants font activation and enjoy using FontExplorer X as much as I have over the past 10 years, should contact them and let them know there is a huge community wanting auto font activation. It's such a pain to do it manually. See below. @nathan_ford @monotype This is definitely on our radar, and we agree that Affinity apps are impressive. Thank you for your input, Chris! 2/27/20
  6. I need to export a few files to PDF format so that they can be edited in illustrator. Maybe this isnt the best way, but i tried exporting as eps, and everything was exported as curves instead of editable type I . I have been exporting other projects as "pdf (for export)" and most of the files have been fine, albeit a bit janky at times and have to sort of reassemble the way the text gets formatted. This particular file however, no matter what way i choose to export it as pdf, I cant get the type to export not as jibberish text. Is there something that im missing here? Thanks for the help all. I included what the text should look like, the pdf, and the design file X4_Itani_Menu__06-18-20.pdf X4_Itani_Menu__06-18-20.afdesign
  7. Affinity Photo & Designer 1.8.3 (App Store installed) macOS Mojave 10.14.6 On my MBP either program was unable to open any editable file from anywhere on the file system nor could it save a new file that was created, resulting in a warning of "Permission Denied." However, on my Mac Pro, everything worked just fine. After some research someone said it was related to the number of fonts installed on the system. I confirmed this case by reducing the number of fonts to match my Mac Pro on my MBP. MBP had 2,800 fonts and the MP had 2,300 enabled. Also, an interesting side note, Publisher which I've purchase direct instead of the App Store had no problems with 2,800 fonts. No other program is affected by the number of fonts enabled, this bug should be fixed.
  8. I haven't gone through my entire collection yet, but I've noticed this problem specifically with two families: Bahnschrift and Cascadia Code. Both happen to be Microsoft typefaces included in Windows 10, though other Microsoft typefaces are fine. Photo 1.8.4.674 and all previous betas I've tried exhibit the same behaviour. Despite the typeface offering several styles (light, condensed, bold, black, italic, etc.), all styles show up as "Regular". Photo seems to know that there is more than one style, and it gets the count correct (e.g., there are indeed 15 styles for Bahnschrift and 6 styles for Cascadia Code). Selecting any of the styles just results in the Regular one being chosen. Photo seems to be the only software that is confused here. Everything else I tried, whether it be Microsoft software like Notepad or Paint, or Adobe Photoshop, or ShareX (my screenshot tool), or Firefox or Brave, etc. are all able to see and apply the different styles. So what's different about these two typefaces that are causing problems with Photo? It doesn't look like Microsoft provides a separate download for Bahnschrift, but you can get Cascadia Code at https://github.com/microsoft/cascadia-code
  9. Hello, thank you for watching. Here are some of my suggestions 1. Perspective tool: I hope that the shortcut operation of the perspective tool can be increased. Currently, the perspective tool can only drag a single stroke point to adjust, but the work needs, I sometimes need to allow two anchor points on a line to be mirrored and transformed at the same time, similar to the square adjustment. Trapezoid, now you can only use the anchor point to look at the numerical adjustment, which is more troublesome 1. 2. Selection: You can stroke the selection. At present, if you want to stroke the selection, you can only call up the selection and then use the shape tool to fill the color. It will be more troublesome, and I found that dragging the mouse to adjust the selection only supports expansion and not indentation. 2. 3. Layers: You can set shortcut keys for cutting layers, and now you can only drag layers with the mouse to adjust the overlay relationship 3. 4. Embedded object: It can quickly convert the layer into an embedded object, similar to a new smart object, without saving the file before placing it. 4. 5. Brushes: The secondary brushes in the brush tool hope to add those texture brushes that come with the software. Currently, only the round brushes and textures are supported. If you can add other brushes, I believe that you can make more effects. 5. 6. Font: It is a pity that many Chinese is not very friendly at present, the system Chinese font can not preview Chinese, and the font title is not Chinese, so it will be more troublesome to use 6. 7. The font layer will be rasterized after exporting the file in psd format, so the handover of the project with colleagues will be more troublesome. 7. 8. Artboard function: I hope that AP can have the same artboard function as AD, which is convenient for putting multiple items in one file for reference and comparison. 8. 9. As a member of many Chinese users, I would like to talk about my own feelings. Now more and more Chinese people are using Affinity series software. We especially like this software, and we have been working hard to study the usage skills. , I hope to increase the Chinese community section, so that more people can put forward their own experience and suggestions, I hope you can do better. 9.
  10. Would be nice if you could offer a font pack as either of bundled or separated product. Especially Japanese fonts are expensive if I buy them from a font developer directly. So Adobe or Corel is bundling some fonts to their product and it's convenient for users. So people in Japan are hoping you to provide a font pack.
  11. I ran into an unusual bug these days: every time I selected a font from a font library collection, the weights were duplicated (even on system fonts, tested after deleting all user fonts). However, if i select the font from the upper menu or the studio window (all fonts) before I acess a collection, this doesn't seem to happen (after I acess one, they duplicate in every menu). This happens in all three apps, and I've already tried to solve this problem by: - deleting all user fonts; - changing the font manager to a 3rd party one; - deleting all the user settings & software and reinstalling (I have the apple store version); Does anyone know what can cause this type of bug or how solve it? 12. Good evening, I am a new user to Affinity Designer and I am loving the experience so far. I am also lucky enough to have the software on both my Mac Pro and my MacBook Air. I am wondering if the list of fonts is the same on both software versions. There seem to be some fonts missing from the MacBook version that are on the Mac Pro version. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Dear Affinity service team, I've got a PDF by an editorial office of a newspaper. The fonts in this PDF are embedded (they are not converted into paths). If I open this PDF in Affinity Photo, I don't get the original fonts of the PDF document but replacement fonts. Sometimes, I have to convert a PDF into a pixel image. It's very important, that the embedded fonts remain im my pixel image. If I open this PDF in Adobe Photoshop instead, I got the original fonts of the PDF. This shows me, that it is possible to maintain the embedded fonts. OS: Windows 7
  14. When I print direct from Publisher, fonts print differently from when I print from a PDF exported from Publisher. The font prints correctly from the PDF. It looks like the text printed directly from Publisher has been kerned and boldened. See file attached. Thanks Font Samples.afpub Font Samples.pdf
  15. I'm working with an old PDF file which has a lot of mathematics in it, and I'm running into problems with the symbol font. For instance, the following equation: Is being imported as: As you can see, most of it comes through properly but for some reason the the parentheses in the Symbol font do not. (The other parentheses are in Times, and they're fine.) Is there a fix for this other than manual correction of each formula? At least a way to search for these unsupported characters?
  16. Affinity photo does not support regional language fonts. Even though the fonts and key board are selected, the letters do not come good in affinity photo.
  17. Hey there, I am currently having an issue importing IDML files into Affinity Publisher that is bugging me a lot. I have been working on a document for quite some time now in InDesign and want to continue work in Publisher. So, I exported the file as IDML and imported it into the Affinity software. My problem is that all font sizes are wrong now. E.g. a text with 11 pt font size which fitted perfectly into its frame in Design will now not fit into the frame at all since the font size is way too big. Am I overseeing a conversion step or something? I would be thankful if you guys could help me out here Thanks a lot!
  18. I like Affinity Publisher's ligature support for Open type fonts. It is very good. Is it possible to make it more intelligent in the future to handle fonts which have ligatures in them but shouldn't use them when the font chosen doesn't support them properly for said font? Linux Biolinum Caps Linux Libertine Initials It can be sorted out manually but it would be nice if Publisher remembered fonts which don't perform well using standard settings. Maybe a preferred font features setting for fonts which don't work as expected? Examples attached. Nottingham.afpub Nottingham.pdf
  19. Here is a library of abstract fonts from my font library. Each font has its own license agreement in its own folder. Most are completely free to use but some may be for personal use only. Check each before use. They are grouped and stored in a zip file. A useful resource of Truetype fonts. AbstractFonts.zip
  20. My fonts folder is on my C Drive and the Affinity products are all on a different drive is there a way to tell Affinity where my fonts are as none of them are showing in the choice of fonts I can use.
  21. Hello as it seems from this thread that I was looking for a solution, there is some short of problem with affinity designer reading some fonts. @LibreTraining describe it better in the above thread than I could. So if you please take a look on what he is saying about the fonts, I'm not that into the technical part to re-describe it myself here. Thanks for your hard work
  22. Good afternoon, I would like to know how to download new fonts (and where find them) on Publisher ? Thanks a lot for your help :-)
  23. ("W.a.d." in subject-line stands for "working as designed".) Before I call this a bug I'll post about it here — see if there's some "w.a.d." behavior I'm just not aware of. The situation: a block of text entered in a font (from Google Fonts) called Cormorant Garamond Semibold. I decide to add a run-in subhead using a font named Mukta (also from Google Fonts). I decide later to move the run-in subhead to a different paragraph. So I highlight that text, and the spaceband (old typesetter term meaning a word space) that follows it, and press Control+X. Immediately the baselines of all lines in the paragraph shift upward by a couple of points. I press Control+Z to undo the change. The baselines return to where they were before. I re-select the inline subhead, but this time I don't include the spaceband that follows it. Again I cut the text with Control+X. This time the baseline does not shift upward. Next test: I select the run-in subhead and simply delete it, leaving the spaceband behind (it is now the first character in the paragraph). No baseline shift. Then I delete the spaceband. The baselines shift again. Later, after making a few point-size changes to the run-in subhead, I can't replicate the unexpected baseline-shift behavior. When it was happening, I checked the baseline offset value in the Character panel and it was the same for all text (it was the nominal point size value for the paragraph as a whole). Whatever the culprit might be, this kind of thing could play complete havoc with a publication's baseline grid and so: wotthehell might be going on here? Ring any bells?
  24. Hello there... First of all I'd like to say that Affinity Designer is a very pleasant and easy software to use. Thank you for your contributions to creativity! This is my complaint and suggestion: It takes way too long to start up. After I start up Designer, it typically takes about 6 to 8 minutes for the program to start and finally loaded to be used. However, I think this might have to do with the fact that I have over 8,000 fonts on my computer....but here's the thing - some of us are designers (get the joke?), and it is VERY reasonable to have up to 8000 fonts on your computer. To be honest, I signed up to this forum, confirmed my email address, and started writing this post, and Designer has not even finished loading. My computer has a quad-core Intel i7 processor, and 16GB of RAM and over 500GB free diskpace, running Windows 10. Also I usually have very few programs (light on resources) running at once. My suggestion: It is probably a bad idea for Designer to scan and record ALL the fonts on a system before the program is use-able. I might suggest even building the fonts database progressively, even after the program has started. Its possible to start the program with only 'Favourites' fonts loaded at the start, and then progressively adding fonts in batches. Just to keep loading and start time to a minimum. I know there are designers who have over 12k fonts on their computers. Would they have to wait 9 minutes before they can use Designer? I feel there is some merit to this idea about progressivly scanning and adding fonts (I do a humble amount of coding myself). To support my point, I am sure that over half every single use of Affinity Designer does not involve text or fonts within the first few minutes. They are probably first working with shapes, lines, color, etc. Please try to fix this issue. With all politeness, it is unacceptable for a program to take 5 to 8 minutes to start. By that time, its easy to even lose any motivation or creative ideas you might have wanted to create. Thank you very much.
  25. Hi. When I try selecting a font from my installed font list, the fonts show up not sorted quiet alphabetically. It is strange. My other apps on iPad show proper alphabetically sorted list. Also, is there a search box to search for a specific font from installed font list? Both these make it difficult to find fonts. Thanks
