Absolutely. Its pretty annoying how it works now.
And +1 to limiting Select Same to unlocked layers only. I was excited about this finally being added but the way it works now is severely limiting for my purposes.

Honestly, I do think the whole 'lock' function needs to just be brought in line with most common art apps. That would help both in this case, and countless others.

+1 I was also surprised by this quirk.
I did not expect Select Same to select invisible objects, and I also did not expect Select Same to select locked objects. Without some way or option to limit the scope to only visible/unlocked objects, this feature is really hamstrung for my uses.
When the Select Same feature selects locked objects, you can easily end up in a situation that feels like a bug: Given I have 10 green circles that are visible, and 5 other green circles that are invisible and locked. Goal, to move the 10 green circles to a different part of the canvas. When I click one green circle, and Select Same, the 10 visibles + 5 invisible and locked circles are selected. And when I try to move my selection to the different part of the canvas, by dragging with the mouse or arrow keys, I cannot move them, because the locked ones are locked. Personally I would have expected only the visible ones to be selected, and then I could have moved them where I wanted.

I appreciate the reply fde101. I am aware that the lock function only prevents selection and transformation. My apologies if I was unclear on my point.
The point I was attempting to make is that I am surprised that the lock function allows anything at all to happen to the locked objects/layers. It could just be my memory playing trick on me, but I am accustomed to the lock function in other programs (Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape, etc.) excluding locked items from any action whatsoever. I'm hopeful that Affinity Draw will incorporate something like this in the future so that the newly implement (and much appreciated) Select All function can be used a little more conveniently and efficiently.

Just got a bunch of labels and an Avery template to lay them out. Of course, you have to make the template visible to see where the label boundaries are.
Then you make a test print with some text on a couple of labels... and ruin the entire sheet because the template is printed too.
    Dumbware.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Selecting a shape should highlight the respective color in the swatches panel

Ok, that would work. But this is just another one (annoying when needed often) work-around, at least for Designer. In Publisher there's no way to exclude layers from printing or exporting, what is even more needed in a design software for print.
The required technology is obviously already implemented, since you can already hide layers for export. From a technical point of view, there will not be a huge difference between export and print. In the end, a raster graphic must rendered in both cases. So what is missing in the first place is another option button in the GUI next to the layer name to implement the function.

Why does 'Select Same Stroke Colour' find lines on layers that are a) hidden and b) locked?
Why does 'delete' actually *delete* these lines from layers that are both hidden and locked?
Is there any way to genuinely lock a layer to prevent actions from occurring on that layer? What does the lock prevent if not that?

Why can we not designate a layer as 'non-printing' even when it is visible? I am working from artwork (tracing, sketching, whatever) that I keep in a reference layer that must be visible but NEVER print.

This is a frequently requested feature.
    Workaround:
    Arrows.afbrushes Arrows.afdesign

    Arrows.mp4

And those are only two of them.
How many times does this common feature have to be requested? It can't be that hard to implement, given that invisible layers already don't print. It's an extra boolean. If that's hard to add to your object model and serialization, this product is dead already, Serif.
Can't figure out how to add the control to the layer list? Fine: For now, just put it in the context menu, at least. And one day aspire to enhance that with a "no-print" icon in the layer-list cell.
And someday, when the technology becomes available, put a button in there with a little printer icon. But of course, that means the unlabeled, nondescript checkbox that's there today will need some love. Hey, how about making that look like an eye!

When using templates, you often don't want the template to print. I can find no way to mark a layer as non-printing in Designer. I would expect to see this in the layer list.
    Thanks!
