What I do is start with the Control Key held down and then only check the second checkbox Reopen Documents at Startup.

This holding down the Control key is done by holding down the key and starting the application while still holding down the key until you see a Clear User Data window open up.

Wow, Wow... Thank You so much. I knew there must be a trick!

  2. Macos Montery latest version Macbook Pro M1 crashes at each startup since 24 h. It tries to open a recovery file, asks If I want to open it but I do not have the time to answer and it crashes immediately. Is there a key combination to avoid opening the recovery file or can you tell me where I can find the recovery file in order to delete it?

I cannot work at all since yesterday.

    Thank you.

Yes, because Page-based documents work differently than Artboard-based documents.

But if you had an Artboard-based document in Publisher you could select across the Artboards, just as you can in Designer.

Of course I know that. Does it mean that a paged base application cannot do object operations over multiple pages? I don't think so. By the way, quite a lot of them do.

Feedback 1: Add "all text" option

The next "select object" tools are awesome. However, under "select object" there is an option of:

    • Art text
    • Frame Text
    • Path text

It would be good if there was an option for "all text". The reason is that imported Ai documents often have text rendered as both art text and frame text. So trying to select them all at the same time can be fiddly.

Having an "all text" option would make things more straight forward.

Feedback 2: Add Options to Publisher

Please could you add the "Select Same" & "Select Object" to Publisher (and maybe even Photo as well).  It would be very handy especially when using automation software (such as Keyboard Maestro) to work on large documents. I recently had a project where I needed to select all the text on a page (but not the images) on a 160 page document, so something like this would have been perfect.

The Adobe apps allow for scripting, which Affinity does not, so anything that makes Affinity more accessible to automation software would be great (especially as Automation software is more user friendly than scripting)

I know studio link can be used to access this functionality, but it would be so much more easier if it was in Publisher natively.

    I totally agree with you.

By the way you can definitely use the Designer Persona but in this case it only works on the current page. And this doesn't make any sense.

If they were planning to add it in the Publisher Persona for 1.9 it would, probably, already be there as it's too close to the end of the beta to be adding new things.

    Hi Walt,

Thought that maybe they were refining it before integrating to Publisher. By the way I all three products, but it could not be the case for everybody.

  6. Hi there,

Publisher 8.1 Iml file import is pretty nice. However although I am not sure this is specific to Iml import, I ave a strange behaviour in 18.1 while exporting a pretty simple logo.

Sometimes a curve with shadow exports correctly and sometimes just the shadow is exported but not the curve. In this case just retrain the export without touching anything fixes the problem. Both files  were made  a couple of minutes appart.

    Thank you.

[....] I’ve come to the assumption that there must be a fundamental flaw in the way they’ve implemented the apps to date which precludes the implementation of this feature. Otherwise, why the hell wouldn’t they have done it years ago.

Of course you are totally right and this is still more frightening!. These however wonderful apps  lack a solid data structure on the back side. If they would have this structure, implementing this kind of feature is just a piece of cake. I can tell that because I did that that in an industrial  packaging design app some 15 years ago.

It would be really nicer and smart to tell us that our requests imply some serious work on app internals.

Everything else in this thread is just noise and smog.

  8. Hi,

Hope you don't mind but your argumentation is totally weird.

Of course I never thought I could cut the cord to Adobe with such an affordable product suite, but I could, ...almost. Of course I don't ask for every single of Adobe to be reproduced in Affinity suit. But for most of the people here, the feature we are asking for since about five years is the ONLY missing to make the big jump. And YES Affinity products are amazing already.

    Have a nice day.

It is compared to FreeHand's Graphic Find & Replace, which appeared well before, and which helped drive demand for something like it in Adobe Illustrator—which still fell short, just like other features preceded by FreeHand.

Illustrator is not the model to emulate. "Select Same" is very weak compared to selecting properties based on user-specified ranges of values (again, per FreeHand's GF&R).

Give Serif time to raise the bar, folks. Get over the Illustrator addiction to mediocrity.

    Good morning JET,

Although I agree about some weakness in Illustrator, at least for the time being what it provides in this matter is far better than nothing. It is the only reason why I still use Illustrator from time to time. The rest of the time I only use affinity.

About giving the time to affinity, in regards to these functionalities the bar is at the level zero. By the way do you really think that five years is not enough at least to start something?

I love affinity and they do have wonderful products that I use everyday but their behaviour with their user base is questionable. Have a look to the length of this thread....

    Have a nice day.
