  1. Path offset is a tool I’ve found I’ve used a lot in illustrator. Glad to see designer has included something similar - just hoping they iterate and improve upon it so that it works a little more intuitively I.e keeping the original path in place and creating the offset as a copy
  2. On reflection the use case for this is quite rare. I used the feature once in a design where I had a series of full bleed images and running heads. The design included a knockout behind the text to allow the text to be read - like a highlight - and the knockout’s max-width was related to the length of the words in the head plus padding left and right. Setting a max width wasn’t possible as some heads ran long and others short and i wanted the Knock-out to grow and shrink accordingly. Not a problem, if I wanted to achieve that look in publisher I can work around it manually. i simply wondered if the function was there or if I was somehow missing it.
  3. I had an issue with guides set on master pages being applied incorrectly to child pages/spreads. Posted in Mac bugs but crashy bugs are naturally/rightfully taking precedence
  4. Hello. Does anyone know if it's possible to create auto/flexible width text frames in publisher? I've looked high and low and haven't uncovered anything thus far. I've used them in the past for running heads set on the master page without text. Configured to take a single line of text ranged left or right with an inset left and right. Possible or not as yet?
  5. @Ravi.For what it’s worth if you want to make the clear and dropper icon big in publisher again go into preferences and (I think general) select use monochrome icons. It doesn’t do anything you’d expect, but it does change the size of the clear colour and eyedropper icons! 😳 The change also seems to persist on restart and for new documents
  6. Line count would also be useful for a given text box. As that is something key to devising solid typographic and picture grids. Surely this could be incorporated into the UI (bottom status bar springs to mind) To be brutally honest. I’d rather affinity concentrate really refining the basics now and making them rock solid rather than adding more bells and whistles. It’s already got the majority of the functionality of ID but it lacks some really basic things and some other basic functionality just doesn’t work. Not to mention some glaring UI/UX inconsistencies. To quote Mies Van de Rohe God is in the details and Less is More
  7. @SamSteele I only just discovered this thread and can only second that there are too many ways to set colours. Affinity really should "borrow with pride" as adobe did with indesign and use quark xpress' metaphor. Swatches palette is your main location for setting fill, stroke and text colours.
  8. Created this palette as I'm yet to set any colours for print as RGB/HSL 🧐 Palette simply contains C/M/Y/K at 100% plus some rich and super blacks Default-CMYK.afpalette
  9. opened up your file on a mac and the behaviour is as expected. 1. selected the text frame on page 1 2. inserted filler text Outcome: text frame populates with text but all other text frames on masters and other pages remains blank. Could be a windows specific issue but I can't test that
  10. @JonathanAux For clarification I ran my test on a Mac - perhaps if you upload a file another windows user can see if they can see if they have the same problem
  11. I tried to replicate this and do not encounter a problem. I agree with @walt.farrell and that perhaps it would be best to share a screen recording of your process
  12. That does sound like a bug to me. I’m unable to test on my version at the moment, but will when I get a chance
  13. Hi @GeoffW, Have you tried splitting your book down into sections of either 16/32/64 pages? I may be telling grandma to suck eggs and I don’t know your background so don’t want to sound preachy 🙂 Offering my experience as someone who has a) worked in publishing and b) has designed books. It is more usual to work in these smaller numbers of page sizes. Rather than all the pages together. Similarly cover designs are done as a separate file to insides/sections. i think even the likes of indesign and Quark would struggle with a very long page count Hope this helps and best of luck
  14. It would be nice if the cursor pointer turned into a crosshair or similar when this tool is active. At the moment it just remains as a standard pointer.
  15. Personally speaking, the majority of/all print work I’ve produced using DTP has been exported to PDF. Why not make export as PDF a file menu option? If not that then make PDF the first option in the list of exportable file formats.
  16. If you use a shape as a text frame and want to edit the colour of that new shape/text frame using the ribbon menu, the fill colour defaults to the text colour NOT the box colour. This, in my view, is a counter intuitive. If you are using a shape tool the contextual ribbon menu should default to the fill and stroke colour of the box/frame first. If you have the text frame tool selected and select the same box/text frame the text colour should then be primarily selected.
  17. Hi guys, just a small point but noticed that the checkbox for this in preferences is under general. This is a little counter intuitive if there is a specific preference for filler text alone. Also shouldn’t filler text just be text anyway? cheers
  18. Hello, Is there a way of selecting which edges of a text frame receive a stroke? I can only see the option to stroke the whole of the frame with a colour. I notice on the table studio you can elect to stoke left, right, top and bottom edges individually. Am I missing something or is this functionality not yet available? Cheers
  19. Any progress on this? Seems like it should be in there. Just discovered it isn't Offsetting a path both positively and negatively is a huge time saver and it's gotta be relatively easy to add in as functionality?!
  20. I personally think this panel isn't that intuitive and is overly complex. The icons make sense, that you can selectively chose which side to apply a decoration/rule to, but having all the indent options below don't. I'd expect there to be only one input box there and for it to be called Offset (as I'm expecting the border/rule/decoration to applied to the selected side of the text frame that I'm working with and to apply to the whole length of that side. Currently selecting the top icon applies the rule to the top as expected, but it doesn't get applied to the full width of the frame unless I stipulate "relative to" -> column for either left and right. This really is baffling - in my opinion. In regards to the icons - these too could be simplified, as the the hatching adds a visual confusion and distracts from the highlighted edge element - which requires more visual weight
  21. An idea would be to increase overall internal padding/indents for the the outer bounds of the table by the same indent as the radius perhaps. Thus a 3mm corner rad on all corners would automatically provide a 3mm inset around the table. Or similarly don’t impose a set indent and allow designers to use their own discretion to set custom padding/indents
  22. A nice to have and always seems to have been missing in indesign, is the ability to round out the corners of tables.
  23. Along with bleed preview bleed set up in the new document set up dialog is missing in the beta. I'm guessing this will be on the development roadmap
