numanair reacted to AndyQ in Affinity Designer for Windows - 1.9.0
Yes, but it's just catch-up on what other apps have had for decades. My question is why the Resource Manager is not a dockable window/palette since this is something I'd be using very frequently in production (as I do in Illustrator/InDesign). I'm certainly glad linked image management exists (although I'm yet to test the implementation)

I import dwgs via pdf, evey layer a different document, so I can keep my cad layer structure.
It works, but it is not a very efficient workflow. Has anyone better ideas?

Well this is actually false advertising! Imagine having to work on that CAD drawing without "select similar" 😂 (even though I'm not sure how you would import it into AD...)

See Pic attached.
After unsuccessfully trying to replicate a chrome layer style in Designer I was about to give up and chalk this up to Designer just doesn't have the goods, BUT IT DOES! After studying the differences in both apps, I saw that a layer style in PS is going to be created differently in AP or AD. I studied why I wasn't getting the chromey effect in AD, I realized that PS has a gloss contour built into their bevel panel, and AD doesn't so I was stumped a while. Soon realized that gloss contour is almost the same or same as a curves adjustment so after tinkering more I came up with this cool chrome CUSTOM effect! AFFINITY ROCKS!!!

Hi numanair,
Thanks for letting us know. I'll get this passed on to development.

The example of a CAD-sourced file needing further editing is only that, an example, albeit a good example due to the many complexities CAD files bring to the table. A useable vector-drawing program needs to include the tools necessary to select and manipulate various objects in >any< file is is asked to operate on; otherwise, there is no need to use that program.
And PDF has become a de facto file exchange format, (often the only format common to two drawing applications,) regardless of whether the PDF format was originally intended to be "digital paper." In today's world, PDF is what we get, and we need to be able to manipulate objects contained in that file type.

This would be a really useful feature. Inkscape has this functionality, but the UX could be improved upon.

I have been hoping they have plans for this. If not, it should be seriously considered. The number of Windows Ink capable devices is growing. I got a laptop with pen functionality specifically for tools like Designer. The iPad interface looks like it works really well in that workflow.

The new Affinity designer for iPad looks and feels awesome.
I would love to see a similar version of the Designer on Windows 10 which uses the full potential of the Windows 10 touch functionalities. A direct copy of the iPad UI could be awesome.
